The Red of Colorful Yunnan—Dongchuan Red Land

Dongchuan Red Land is located in Hongtudi Town, Dongchuan District, Kunming. Situated in the Wumeng Mountains, it is the most concentrated, typical, and characteristic red land in Yunnan, and also one of the most unique red plateau landscapes in the world. Due to the high temperature and abundant rainfall, the iron in the soil is oxidized and gradually deposited, forming this dazzling red, also known as "the red of colorful Yunnan, the earth's palette." It is said that after the rain, the red is even more moist and vibrant. In February, the red land is covered with green oats and budding rapeseed flowers. Under the azure plateau sky, white clouds drift, and distant mountains appear and disappear in the mist. The strong color blocks and graceful lines are like a colorful painting drawn by heaven on the earth. Scenic spots within the area include Yuepu’ao, Luoxiagou, Jinxiuyuan, Qicaipo, Luosiwan, Hongtu Daguan, and the Millennium Dragon Tree. There are photo opportunities with the "Pipe-smoking Old Man," and the Millennium Dragon Tree scenic area was a filming location for the movie *Forever Young*. The snow lotus fruit sold by villagers in the scenic area is large, juicy, sweet, and inexpensive.
