Yumbulagang

Yumbulagang is located on Zaxi Tsiri Mountain, 11 kilometers from Zedang Town, Shannan City, Tibet. It is the first palace in the history of Tibet and one of the earliest buildings in Tibet, with a history of more than 2100 years. Yumbulagang means 'Mother and Son Palace'. It is said to have been built by Songtsen Gampo to marry Princess Chizun and Princess Wencheng. The entire building is divided into three levels. The first level is a tower-style building with an area of 2700 square meters. The second level is a palace-style building with an area of 300 square meters. The third level is a small square tower with an area of 250 square meters. The entire building is built with stones, without using any wood. As an important historical relic of Tibet, Yumbulagang was announced as a key national cultural relic protection unit by the State Council in 1961.
