Shinsekai, namely the New World of Osaka

#osakaitinerary Stepping into Shinsekai is like walking into a time capsule of Osaka’s colorful past. This retro neighborhood, developed in the early 20th century, blends nostalgic charm with an eccentric energy you won’t find anywhere else in the city. The entire neighbourhood was towered by the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, which was eye catching, but what’s even more so was the vibrant maze of neon signs, and 3D vintage storefronts that seem frozen in time — offering a stark, fascinating contrast to the modernity of places like Umeda or Namba. The real soul of Shinsekai lies in its down-to-earth atmosphere and culinary treasures. It’s the birthplace of kushikatsu, deep-fried skewers of meat and vegetables, served piping hot with a no-double-dipping rule. I also managed to see people playing the traditional chess in a local clubhouse (people smoked inside though)
