Wat Phu Stone Temple, Champasak, Southern Laos

Wat Phu Stone Temple, Champasak, the 2nd World Heritage Site of Laos, is located in Southern Laos, Champasak Province. It is an ancient Khmer civilization site and the largest ancient city in Laos. The temple is situated on a hillside to the west of the Mekong River, about 30 kilometers from Pakse city. The ancient architecture is located on Phu 9, southwest of Champasak city. Evidence suggests that it was built on the old city of the Cham people, with cultural traces from India dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries AD during the Champasak Kingdom era. It extends to the Wat Phu Champasak area of the Mekong and Mun Rivers.
