[Osaka] Getsuzoji Temple, Sakai City

#SummerCampaign Getsuzoji Temple is a Nichiren sect temple located in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. Founded in 1495, it was called Honkobo. Approximately 50 years later, when it moved to its current location, the father of the monk Nichiko, who founded Myokokuji Temple, built a new temple and renamed it Getsuzoji Temple. The city of Sakai has suffered several wars and natural disasters, but has always been rebuilt. The temple grounds are home to the graves of historical figures such as Oono Michiinsai Harutane, a Toyotomi warrior who set fire to Sakai on his lord's orders during the Summer Siege of Osaka, and Kazama Rokuemon, who later restored Sakai's devastated streets following the Genwa Town Reorganization. The temple grounds boast a garden called "Nichigetsuen," and the previously lonely and gloomy cemetery has been renovated into a bright, natural communal graveyard. The temple boasts a magnificent mountain gate and beautiful grounds. Main Hall After being burned down during the Summer Siege of Osaka, it was rebuilt in 1712. It has undergone numerous restorations, including a restoration in 1994 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the temple's founding. The original pillars were apparently used in the reconstruction and remain in place to this day. Sanmon Gate Rebuilt in 1850 with donations from the Hirooka and Tomoe families, who were court physicians at the time, this temple is considered a representative relic of the late Edo period.
