Behind the Bund, there is a charming little road Historically, Yuanmingyuan Road was a road with only a single side of street facade, facing a large green area of the British Consulate. The buildings on this road are neatly arranged, continuous and varied in style, depicting the vicissitudes of Shanghai over the past 100 years. After the British Consulate was built at the confluence of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou River in 1855, the area around Yuanmingyuan Road, which was opened up, quickly became a gathering place for foreign consulates, associations of Western countries, cultural institutions and foreign firms, making Yuanmingyuan Road one of the roads with the densest historical buildings.
