China Modern and Contemporary Press and Publication Museum and Art and Design Museum

The Art and Design Museum of the Modern and Contemporary Chinese Press and Publication Museum is located on the fourth floor of the museum. The Art and Design Museum displays publication designs composed of "words" and "pictures" in a small space, connecting four major parts: "Chinese characters and publishing", "from pictures to patterns", "Fifty years of New Year pictures, propaganda posters, and comic strips", and "Chinese publication designs renowned both at home and abroad". The museum presents the innovation and fashion of publication design over a century of changes in a sequence of physical objects, guiding the audience to follow the context of the times and feel the development process of modern Chinese publication design. There are four designer workbench scenes in the museum, namely the font design workbench, cover design workbench, comic book drawing workbench and dictionary workbench. A documentary video is projected above the workbench, showing the entire design process. The Art and Design Museum ends with a design workbench for the Cihai dictionary. This large-scale, comprehensive dictionary, which is "broad and magnificent", has been revised six times. It is all-encompassing and its design is the culmination of a century of publication design.
