【Shanghai】Yu Garden

Shanghai Yu Garden is a historic Jiangnan-style classical garden built in the Ming Dynasty, located in the Huangpu District of Shanghai. It was built in 1559 by Ming Dynasty official Pan Yunduan to please his father, and "Yu" means "pleasure," hence the name "Yu Garden."   Major attractions: • Dajia Mountain: The tallest artificial mountain in the garden, it features a spectacular landscape made of Taihu stone.  • Gyokurei-ro: A strange stone that is considered one of the three most famous stones in Jiangnan, known for its unique shape and beauty.  • Tenshun Hall: A historic building that was used as a command post during the 1853 Small Sword Society Uprising.  • Nine-Curved Bridge: This bridge features a curved shape and was designed based on Chinese legend that evil spirits can only move in a straight line. Yuyuan was designated a cultural relic protection unit by Shanghai City in 1959 and opened to the public in 1961. In 1982, it was recognized as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council.  Access: Yuyuan is located in the center of Shanghai and is a few minutes' walk from Yuyuan Station on subway line 10. There are other tourist attractions in the area, such as the City God Temple and Yuyuan Shopping Center, so you can enjoy it all day long.
