Shanghai Astronomy Museum

Shanghai Astronomy Museum (a branch of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) is located in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area and is the largest astronomy museum in the world. Its architecture is designed around the concept of "connecting people and the universe," cleverly simulating celestial orbits through smooth curves and circular skylights, integrating astronomical observation functions into the building itself. The total building area of the museum is about 38,000 square meters, with the main exhibition area including three core chapters: "Home," "Universe," and "Journey." Visitors start from the familiar solar system ("Home"), delve into the mysteries of the universe's space-time structure, gravity, and dark matter ("Universe"), and finally review humanity's grand journey of exploring the cosmos and look to the future ("Journey"). The museum houses about 70 precious meteorite samples and more than 120 antique astronomical instruments from different civilizations and eras. With its futuristic architectural form, immersive narrative experience, and rich collection of valuable artifacts, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum has become not only an important scientific landmark in Shanghai and China but also a world-class science popularization hall that inspires public curiosity and passion for cosmic science, especially among young people.
