Armenian Street, the art street with graffiti

The Armenian Street is Named after the Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illuminator, and was originally called Armenian Church Street and built in the 1840s. Today the street is currently part of the civic district, and home to buildings such as The Peranakan Museum and the Substation. At the side of substation, there are many graffiti. It is unique as these aren’t vandalism but approved to be down. This is important to note as graffiti and vandalism is not allowed in Singapore.

Through the name “Armenian Street” many people believed that many of the Armenians resided or opened business in the area. However it was said that only one to two residents or business was actually in the area. The Peranakan Museum and substation is currently renovating. This street is fun during the Singapore Night Festival when the streets are lighted up and dock with performances and street stores. #localhistory
