Singapore: City Walk Adventure

#singaporetrip With Auntie busy at work, Mama and I had the day all to ourselves—perfect for a little urban exploring! We hopped on the East-West Line from Pioneer Station with no solid plan in mind, just a shared spirit of curiosity. We ended up getting off at Raffles Place, a station I just learned was once Singapore’s deepest MRT stop at 21.4 metres below ground. That title now belongs to Dhoby Ghaut Station on the North East Line, which dives even deeper at 28 metres! It has beaten by other stations after awhile Raffles Place station has quite a few exits, and since we didn’t have a fixed destination, we simply flowed with the crowd. That led us straight into the heart of Singapore’s bustling Central Business District—right to the striking Progress and Advancement sculptures. They’re bold, modern, and hard to miss. Walk around them in a circle and you’ll get a visual story of Singapore’s growth and transformation. We made a quick stop at Yueh Hai Ching Temple to pay our respects as we wandered around. Nestled right in the middle of the city’s hustle and bustle, the temple felt like stepping into a completely different world—calm, spiritual, and timeless. The contrast was striking and beautiful. According to Google reviews, it’s known to be an effective temple for prayers and wishes—so hey, you might want to give it a try too! We strolled along the Singapore River after temple. Look up “Boat Quay” on Google Maps—that’s the spot. It’s a lovely walk, though we both agreed it’s probably even more magical at night when the lights reflect off the water. Mental note for next time! To wind down, we popped into the National Gallery Singapore. Entry was free, so why not? The moment we stepped in, it felt like the world slowed down. The building had this serene, solemn vibe—庄严 is the perfect word. It was unexpectedly calming and offered a peaceful contrast to the buzz of the city. We caught the East-West Line back from City Hall Station, legs a little tired but hearts full. A solid 16,000 steps later, our spontaneous city day came to a close. Not bad for a day with no plan!
