The Old Bazaar is a hawker center open 24 hours. You can find all sorts of Singaporean specialty here such as spicy crab, Bak Kut Teh, Char Kway Teow, Indian cuisine, cane juice, barbeque meats etc. The prices are really cheap and many locals like to come here for food, as do tourists. For example, a small portion of Hokkien noodles is SGD 5.50, a large portion is SGD 8.00, a cane juice costs SGD 2.20. I recommend everyone to bring cash here as most stores take cash only. At night, the street where the Old Bazaar is near Sofitel Hotel gets blocked off. As a night market selling BBQ, it sells primarily Satay meat skewers, and many people come here for satay skewers every day. Satay is a traditional food from Malaysia. Marinated chicken, beef, lamb, shrimps are grilled and a thick layer of satay sauce is spread on it. Satay sauce is made with a mixture of peanut butter, coconut spread and baby shrimps. It is slightly sweet to the taste. We were staying at Sofitel Hotel and the Old Bazaar was just below, so we’ve had 2 meals here. Trying satay skewer for the first time. Even though the meat pieces were really small, the meat was not bad. Eat it with satay and it does taste quite good. They’ve prepared the large shrimps and you can pull its head off entirely, then take out the meat from its shell and eat it in its entirety. It feels great.
