Its geographical coordinates are 117°38' east longitude and 30°11' north latitude. It was built in the third year of Zhenghe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1113) and was named Hongcun. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795), it was renamed Hongcun, and enjoys the reputation of being a "village in a painting." Hongcun is located in the Hongcun Basin, surrounded by mountains on three sides, and its layout maintains a north-facing south orientation. The site is situated in the center of a landscape surrounded by mountains and water, at an altitude of approximately 360.4 meters. It has a north subtropical humid monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 15.5°C and an average annual rainfall of 1759.67 mm. More than 400 years ago, Hongcun planned and built "ox-shaped" village pond and canal water conservancy facilities with Shuizhen, Yue沼, and Nanhu as the main water systems. There are 137 existing ancient Ming and Qing residential buildings, including Chengzhi Hall and Peide Hall, known as the "Folk Forbidden City," Sanli Hall and Lexu Hall, the former residences of Huizhou merchants, and Nanhu Academy, an ancient academy.
