Xiangshan in Jiangnan | By the shore of Lunu Lake, a hidden fairyland

💦Lunu Lake is a beautiful scenic lake located at the top of Xiangshan Scenic Area in Zhangjiagang. Its name comes from a beautiful folk legend. ✨According to Sha Zengda, a poet from the late Qing and early Republic period, it is said that long ago a Taoist priest practiced cultivation by the lake, where deer often came to drink water and gave birth to a girl. The priest raised the girl, who grew up to be extraordinarily beautiful. Later, when the emperor ordered a beauty selection, the girl was forced to attend. Before entering the palace, she bathed in Xiangshan Lake, and after bathing, she disappeared into the mountains without a trace. To honor the chastity of this "Deer Girl," the lake was renamed "Lunu Lake." 💫This touching legend adds mystery and romance to the lake, making Lunu Lake not only a clear pool atop the mountain but also a cultural landmark carrying an ancient story.
