2024 Dumaguete Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Dumaguete is also transliterated into Chinese as “Dumagete.” The city is located in the large southeast region of Negros Island and is the capital city of the Eastern Negros. Dumaguete is a peaceful, quiet university town where around 30% of the population are students. Hence, the town has a very lively atmosphere. It is a great place to stay for a few days and experience a pure small town lifestyle. Dumaguete is also a well-known location for diving and honeymooning as there are many pristine islands in the area. These islands include pristine coral reef reserves and delightful tropical fish. This area of ocean is also one where you are more likely to see a whale shark.

*It doesn't have an elevator so expect that you need to use the stairs. Anyway, it doesn't have lots of floors so it's fine unless you carry big luggages. If I'm not mistaken the highest one is 4th floor.#hotelstay #dumaguetecity #staycation #exploredumaguete #negrosoriental
Noelle's
SANS RIVAL and silvanas come to mind at the mention of Dumaguete, but the City of Gentle People offers more than these famed delicacies.
The management of The Henry Resort Dumaguete has invited Dumaguete’s best purveyors of food to provide multiple options for guests.
Named after Noelle Fuentes, the family brunch restaurant is inspired by traditions of comfort of brunch food its members grew up in.
Noelle offers three-piece Belgian waffles served with bacon, butter and maple syrup. Brunch Bowls, among which is the Herb Butter Pork Chop made of thick cut pork chop, garlic and herb butter, are served with roasted potatoes or rice. These pair well with a Banana Smoothie.
Noelle's Brunch Bar, located inside "the Henry", offers an exceptional dining experience with its accommodating and respectful staff. The restaurant's modern classy look, coupled with its masculine feel, sets the perfect ambiance for lovely intimate dinners or group gatherings. The extensive menu, featuring all-day breakfast and brunch options, will satisfy any craving.
Don't miss the opportunity to try the must-have Española pizza and herbed porkchop.
While the service is top-notch, there are some dishes that could be improved. The Korean braised pork belly could benefit from a more pronounced Korean flavor profile. While the Beef pepper rice did taste good, it lacked visual appeal and was somewhat dry.

Dumaguete City was tagged as one of the "world's 7 best places to retire according to the 2014 Forbes Magazine. Located within this "City of Gentle People", Silliman University is the oldest American University in Asia. Established in 1901 by Protestant missionaries of the Presbyterian Church, it is a major landmark in the heart of the city having a campus with a number of giant acacia trees around and buildings having a colonial American architecture. Just recently, Silliman landed as one of the most beautiful Christian college and university campuses in the world. 😊
Road Less Visit
Driving approximately 30 minutes north of Dumaguete lies another gem hidden within the Negros Island. Dubbed as "City of Professionals", Tanjay City is a must see place for tourists traveling around the area. Aside from their famous "budbud", recently gaining attention is the Tanjay Mangrove Boardwalk. It is a very interesting and elaborate boardwalk transversing among mangrove trees above the shallow waters. You would feel like you got lost in a manicured maze leading you to the open ocean.
This is one of the hidden gem of Negros Oriental. It is a must visit place for friends and family. Spend an afternoon here and peacefully relax. #spooktaculartrip
Twin Lakes on a Forest
Atop the mountains that surround the small coastal town of Sibulan are two pristine lakes of Balinsasayao and Danao. Tucked away from the nuisance of the rapidly progressing Dumaguete, they lay unperturbed in the mountains with only the singing of the birds and the tranquility of nature keeping them company. Hidden beneath the abundance of the luscious rainforest, they are treasures meant to be revered to and protected.
Municipality of Sibulan is located just 15-minute north of Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental. It is a must see attraction while visiting the beautiful island. #spooktaculartrip #tripblazers

Very stunning 🥰
Scenic attraction with a waterfall over red rocks, a natural swimming pool below & a hanging bridge.
We drove up to see the falls and i
we are not disappointed . It was decidedly cooler there between the higher elevation and the mist from the falls contributing to the effect. With noting but the sound of crashing and flowing water from the falls, it is a very calming and peaceful escape from the general traffic! There is also a resort here. #themepark #staycation
Mang Kaloy's Local Goodies
Found in the busiest City of Negros Oriental, Dumaguete City, is Mang Kaloy food shop.
Mang Kaloy is a local food store found along the streets of Escaño Beach. They may be in street food style, but they are serving the best fried rice in town. I didn't think fried rice could come in such a variety of flavors. They also have toppings to choose from.
Aside from their famous fried rice, they are also known for their spices and sauces. A mixture of different spices including those Filipino favorites such as "Suka Sinamak". What's nice is that they come in really cool containers too. You can even have a free taste of their sauces.

Most of its sugar mansions and prominent ancestral houses were converted into hotels, local-based and nationally known coffee shops, fine-dining restaurants and bars.

Oldest Restaurant in Dumaguete
This restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants here in Dumaguete. As far as I can recall, this restaurant was among the first pizza restaurant in the City. The food here is simply delicious. Feast at Jo Inato's Roasted Chicken
Jo’s Inato is well known for it’s chicken Inato. If you’re wondering, Inasal is on the salty side while Inato is sweeter. I am very satisfied with the food and services. Aside from the chicken Inato which Jo’s is known for, the restaurant offers seafood and a variety of desserts. Take note: the buco halo is a must try and I am pretty sure you will surely crave for more. I've been here multiple times and they dont disappoint me. #urbanexplorer #summervacation

Dumaguete's history
Deep in the woods, this shrine will teach you a little about Dumaguete’s history. The shrine was built to commemorate the surrender of Japanese forces on Sept. 22, 1945, marking the end of the fierce battle and monumental invasion.
The Japanese Shrine, however, gives you something to work towards as you hike the 2 ½-hour journey through the mountain across foot-bridges, through villages, and around a few boulders until you reach its location 2175 feet above sea level. #urbanexplorer #urbanexplorer

a place close to my heart
Dumaguete holds a special place in my heart. Take a walk along the seaside on Rizal Boulevard. On one side you have the ocean, and on the other you have shady trees with grassy knolls, park benches, trinket hawkers, and intermittent food stalls.
At night, the Boulevard is illuminated with bright lampposts that provide both a safe and romantic atmosphere. Have a stroll or a seat while you look out onto the water at the large ships and small boats passing by. As night falls, more and more food stalls come out, including the ever-so-popular tempura stands. There are even plastic chairs and tables for you to sit down and enjoy. This is the place where i grew up and it still the best place for me. #urbanexplorer #summervacation

Restau in front of the beach
The best oceanfront atmosphere in Dumaguete and the best live music venue around! Different, different styles nightly from jazz and reggae to the only live classic rock and blues in the city. Everytime we go out to dine, Hayahay is always the place that comes to our mind. Foods are all at it's best.

Chasing waterfall in Valencia
Walking this morning from valencia park to limot takna( casaroro falls) to camp ganghis 2 1/2 hours although its not easy but very nice the fresh air and the sounds of the nature.
My friend and I really enjoyed seeing the waterfall, and how remote it seemed to be. We only saw two other people with a guide on our trip to the waterfall and back. Those who want to go need to realize that there are 335 stairs and a slippery walk back and forth across a creek to get to the falls. You need to wear some sandals or water shoes with good tread on them.
