Yamashita park
When I stayed in Japan, this is my favorite park. Locals and visitors love the park for picnics, pretty views of the water, and gorgeous flowers in spring. There’s a giant ocean liner in the water beside the promenade, which was converted into a museum after it was retired from sea journeys in 1960. Yamashita Park is also a great place to walk, jog, or run.

Kawachi Fuji Garden is a privately owned wisteria garden, and the land area is a staggering 3,000 tsubo (Japanese unit of land. One tsubo is about 3.3 square meters). It is said that this is one of the largest gardens in Japan.
In spring, more than 100 wisteria flowers of 22 types bloom on the ground, and besides wisteria, it has about 700 Japanese maple trees, so the scenery in autumn is also magnificent. To maintain that beauty, the garden is carefully controlled, and since the wisteria flowers can be damaged if too many tourists come, this place is not advertised at all. In addition, the number of entries is limited throughout the year, and general visitors can only enter during a limited period of Spring and Autumn.
However, because they want to see the zekkei (beautiful scenery) even if it is only a glimpse, many tourists and media from all over the world visit there. As a result, the reputation of this place immediately spread by word of mouth also abroad.

Snow Monkey Park
Have you ever imagined wild monkeys bathing in a hot spring? It may sound unreal, but actually does exist as a world-famous tourist attraction in Japan! Snow Monkey Park is a unique nature park which has suddenly become famous when it was featured in Life, the American magazine. Visitors can watch wild monkeys move around freely in a great natural environment. Nestled at the elevation of 850 meters, the park is covered with snow when the temperature drops during a long winter season. The severe weather encourages monkeys to soak in a natural hot spring bath to warm up their body, which attracts numerous international tourists every year.

Mount Fuji, Japan
Often capped with snow, Mount Fuji's gently sloping volcano is Japan's definition of perfection. Revered by locals and considered a top place to visit in Japan, the 12,388-foot summit is open to hikers in certain seasons. Most visitors opt for a sighting, either from Tokyo's sky-high observation decks or a passing bullet train heading to Osaka. Or, consider a visit to Hakone, a town with natural hot springs where you can savor the view – best in early morning or late afternoon, between November and May.

Glimpse of China in Japan
You can’t visit Yokohama without making a pitstop at Japan’s largest Chinatown. It’s been around since 1859, after the area became one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade. Always a must try!

Best place to have picnic
If you’re feeling hemmed in by tall buildings, head over to Negishi Forest Park. It’s well-loved by local joggers and runners, and is generally a great place for a picnic. There are also 350+ cherry blossom trees planted here, which means a riot of pink and white in spring. If you’re here for the sakura, don’t forget to bring your own food for the picnic. Train: 15-minute walk from Yamate Station on the JR Negishi line.

Modern and future city
Minato Mirai 21 literally translates to “harbour of the future.” While this seaside urban area in central Yokohama isn’t quite Star Trek, the numerous high rise complexes – including the distinctive Landmark Tower – form the city’s striking and, yes, moderately futuristic skyline. Definitely a must try and witness a growing city!

Edo Castle was the home of the ruling Tokugawa shogunate, so it became the center of Japanese politics and its many intrigues. It is now the palace and residence of the Royal Family, as well as tranquil gardens and several museums open to the public.
