We had a terrific experience visiting Mabamba Swamp, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, Lake Mburo, and Kampala. Our guide and driver, David Magoomu, who navigated the Toyota LandCruiser safari car, was excellent, and we highly recommend him. The 14-day safari journey, along with one day in Kampala, allowed for occasional mornings or afternoons off, so it could be done in fewer days. We enjoyed game drives with our own guide while other activities, such as boat safaris, walking tours, and mountain biking, were conducted with local guides. Gorilla trekking was undoubtedly the most memorable part of the trip. The lodges provided good accommodation and offered a high level of service, especially Gorilla Leisure Lodge, which excelled in client service with attentive staff like Hassan. The roads in Uganda were in good condition overall, with minimal potholes, except for the sand roads. The booking process was facilitated by Nadia, whose helpful communication convinced us to choose this travel agency over others. Additionally, the SGR guarantee, ensuring protection in case of bankruptcy, played a significant role in our decision. We would wholeheartedly recommend this trip and, especially, our wonderful guide David.

The big cats in the central Serengeti and Namiri Plains were truly awe-inspiring. Ngorongoro offered a fantastic game drive as well. A day spent with the Hadzabe people at Lake Eyasi was an extraordinary cultural highlight. Strolling through the village of Mto wa Mbu, sampling the local food, and enjoying a gin and tonic at sunset in the bush were unforgettable moments. Joseph ensured everything was punctual and safe. The entire trip was wonderful, and I can't wait to go back!

For Bwindi, you should always have a raincoat ready as it is a rainforest and the weather changes quickly. 🎟️ Gorilla Permit Update 2026 The Uganda Wildlife Authority announced in February 2026 that there are Low Season Gorilla Permits for foreign tourists at US$600 during the months of April, May, and November. Permits for the low season cannot be rescheduled. UWA also announced that a new price structure effective January 1, 2027, sets Gorilla Tracking for foreign tourists at US$800. Our trip through Uganda was beautiful—an unforgettable experience. We were greeted at Entebbe by the very friendly and exceptionally attentive driver, Emmanuel, who gave us an initial impression of the city and shared some insights about the country. The next morning, we began our journey with Moses Ssekabira, whose guidance was outstanding. From the initial briefing to answering all kinds of questions about the country, history, customs, culture, and, of course, the wildlife, Moses provided us with perfect support. Patience and extensive knowledge allowed Moses to deliver an incredible safari experience. THANK YOU!!! However, we do have one critique regarding the trip preparation. While the booking process was handled very well, the communication afterward regarding the Ebola situation, local procedures, and necessary precautions was less proactive. Considering many tourists canceled their trips to Uganda due to Ebola, we would have appreciated a more proactive stance on these concerns. Unfortunately, it required our repeated inquiries to receive only standardized information. This is an area that could see improvement if a similar situation arises again. As for accommodations, the selection of hotels and lodges was good, except for the stay in Bwindi. The service at all accommodations was excellent and very attentive. The Kibale Tourist Safari Lodge in Kibale and the Buffalo Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth Park met our expectations—clean, well-equipped lodges offering a very authentic experience. The K Hotel in Entebbe was functional. However, the Rushaga Gorilla Lodge in Bwindi was VERY basic. The pool had no water, and the rooms resembled those of a budget backpacker hotel rather than a safari-level accommodation we expected in this price range. That said, the service there was also very attentive. Despite these few shortcomings, the overall experience remains unforgettable, largely thanks to Moses and Emmanuel’s exceptional service. Uganda is a fascinating country with incredibly friendly, cheerful people and stunning natural beauty. This journey is one we will treasure forever. Thank you!!!

I flew Kigali→Goma (crossed at Grand Hôtel, 100 USD visa + 30 USD yellow-fever check bribe-adjacent), pre-paid 400 USD permit online, stayed at Mikeno Lodge (250 USD). Trek day: 06:40 briefing, 07:10 forest entry, the mossy ridge is Hagenia–Hypericum forest: Metzgeria on the Hagenia bark 1 cm thick, 10°C in July, a Rwenzori turaco, then at 08:40 the trackers radio'd — Humba group 200 m up. One hour with the gorillas (silverback 30 m away, moss on the vine he leaned on silver with drip), ate a packed 20 USD lodge sandwich, watched Nyiragongo smoke across the ridge. Mistake: I carried a 2-litre bottle only — Virunga humidity + 3 hr climb = empty by contact; 3 L + electrolytes, no stream water. Another: the 400 USD permit is non-refundable, date-locked — if Goma closes (it has, periodically) you lose it; travel insurance with evac clause mandatory. Would you pay 400 USD permit + 250 USD lodge + visa for the Mikeno gorilla-ridge mossy hour, or spend the same in Uganda Bwindi (800 USD) for a longer habituated-group sit?

We had an incredible journey with our guides, Patrick in Uganda and Willy in Kenya, exploring Uganda and Kenya's wonders. From chimpanzee trekking in Kibale to witnessing the tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and experiencing gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, every moment was magical. My safari with Safaris R Us was outstanding. I started in Uganda, tracking Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Chimps in Kigali, both of which were truly unforgettable experiences. Returning to Tanzania, I explored the rhino sanctuary and the wild dog breeding program with Safaris R Us. I then enjoyed two incredible days at St Jude's School, witnessing how education can genuinely change lives. Afterward, I ventured to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Ndutu to witness the great migration. I had specific hopes to see hyenas and cheetahs, and I was thrilled that they delivered on both. Personally, I find Uganda to have more biodiversity and experiential activities compared to other East African countries, which I'll share more about later. For a 7-8 day itinerary, the main points and sequence could be: Entebbe/Kampala — Kibale — Queen Elizabeth National Park — Bwindi — Lake Mburo — Entebbe We can experience wild chimpanzees (the smartest primate species after humans), big cats lounging in trees, wild "King Kongs" (gorillas), secluded lake island life, and encounter adorable wild animals during hikes. 🏨【Accommodation Guide】: Choosing 4-5 star accommodations on Trip.com generally offers a better experience. However, not all quality accommodations may be searchable, as resources in Africa are limited. Some unique properties require finding a reliable agent. 🧡【Tips】: Gorilla permits (i.e., tickets) are very popular from June to September each year. There are multiple entry points, and the government limits the number of permits for each. You need to purchase them in advance through a travel agency. Accommodation in Bwindi Park can only be confirmed after securing your permits, as the entry points are far apart. The same applies to hotels; good and unique hotel resources are scarce, so it's first come, first served. 🙂:Key points: Traveling solo in East Africa is not recommended due to inconvenient transportation and safety concerns. There's a vast difference in service and quality between high-end hotels and local guesthouses; one wrong choice can mean the difference between a refugee-like experience and a luxury safari. It's best to choose a 4x4 off-road vehicle, as the roads are long and not in good condition, and comfort significantly impacts your travel quality. It's essential to plan and discuss your itinerary with a reliable travel agency before your trip, confirming the hotels and vehicle type. This determines the quality of your journey, ensuring a worry-free experience from arrival to departure. Each travel agency's resources and services vary, so it's advisable to compare and choose what suits you best.

#adventuremoments When we talk about travel, most often what comes to mind are cities and beaches, but there are adventures that change the way you see the world. For me, such a moment was meeting mountain gorillas in Uganda — an experience that cannot be compared to anything else. There are only about 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the world. They live at altitudes from 2,200 to 4,300 meters. Globally, there are only three countries where you can encounter mountain gorillas — Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Congo is unsafe for tourists, in Rwanda a permit for gorilla trekking costs $1,500, and in Uganda it’s $800. This is a mandatory fee per person that every tourist must pay. That’s why we chose Uganda — it’s more affordable. Your plane will land at the country’s main airport, Entebbe. It is just 30 km from the capital city Kampala, but there is not much to do in Kampala, so we didn’t stay. Next, you head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The road itself is already an adventure: bumps, turns, tiny villages where children wave to tourists, and endless green hills stretching all around. It’s beautiful, and it’s the real Africa. The trek begins early in the morning, accompanied by rangers and guides. The route is not easy: dense thickets, roots under your feet, wet ground, and climbs that take your breath away. Sometimes you have to push through thorns and misty greenery. But that’s exactly what creates the feeling of a real expedition. No paved roads. If you are not confident in your fitness level, I wouldn’t recommend it. It truly can be challenging at times. And then — everything changes. The rangers signal to stop. Through the leaves, you see movement — and right before your eyes appears a gorilla family. A huge silverback sits in the shade, radiating power and calm. Nearby, the young ones are playing, rolling in the grass and teasing each other, while the females keep a watchful eye. You realize: this is not a zoo, not a safari from a car window — this is a true face-to-face encounter with the wild. Once you find the gorilla family, you have one hour. That’s the exact time allowed to spend with them, and then you must leave. These are the rules, designed to respect the gorillas’ peace and wellbeing. And it’s worth noting: if you don’t find a gorilla family, it’s sad, but the money is not refunded. Rare, but it happens. When the trek ended, we received certificates proving our participation. The world felt different. It was more than just an adventure — it was a lesson on how important it is to value nature and our place within it. #uganda #gorilla
