This production offers a tender yet lyrical, fresh, and heartfelt reinterpretation of H.C. Andersen's beloved tale. The creators stayed true to the main storyline: the tin soldier falls out of the window, drifts in a paper boat, encounters a rat, ends up in a fish's belly, returns home, and meets his fiery fate. However, an additional narrative layer has been added. Two narrators, the kind-hearted Author and the cunning Troll, steer the events of the story. The Author aims for a happy ending, while the Troll seeks to ruin the soldier's fate. This innovative approach makes the play lively and unpredictable, allowing the audience to experience not just the tale but also the tension of how it might conclude. The backbone of the performance lies in the use of marionettes, the most challenging puppets to manipulate. A single movement requires immense precision, carried out by several team members behind the scenes. For contrast, other puppetry styles are also featured: · Glove puppets bring the Troll to life, with his solid, sharp movements reflecting his character. · Rod puppets are used for the caged canary. · Shadow theater adds depth and mystery, projecting silhouettes onto the stage and walls to expand the story’s atmosphere.
