This hotel was our only attraction in Kirkenes. We spent two days and one night there, so we had plenty of time. Norway is absolutely amazing to explore! Three days and two nights are simply not enough! In Stockholm, I felt a strong cultural atmosphere, visited many interesting museums and art galleries, and tasted the local cuisine, which was incredibly delicious! I also visited the Royal Palace in Stockholm and saw the luxurious palace of the Swedish royal family, which felt like being in a fairy tale. Then, I arrived in Bergen, and this harbor city is truly beautiful! After breakfast that morning, I was resolute in my decision to skip lunch and prepare an empty stomach to welcome the grand feast several hours later 😄 As the staff laid the first little pile of king crab legs & claws on our table, our eyes lit up in delight and our hands soon got busy cutting them up to get at the juicy meat within. All the freshly caught king crabs were steamed to perfection and we loved every bite of their tender flesh, requesting for refills until we eventually waved the white flag 😋😋😋😋 These king crabs easily became listed as one of our top 3 meals during our Nordic Europe trip.

Just returned from staying at Six Senses Svart in the Arctic Circle with my child! Let me share some hard truths— 1️⃣ Huge trap! The hotel is built at the foot of a glacier The so-called "eco-friendly hotel" resulted in my child pressing against the window every day screaming: "Mom, look! The glacier is melting!" Being kicked awake at 3 AM to see the Northern Lights, how am I supposed to catch up on sleep before school tomorrow?? (The Svartisen glacier is so blue it looks fake—I took 100 phone photos and they all look like internet pictures 😭) 2️⃣ Huge trap! The rooms are circular prisons All 94 rooms are curved! My child got dizzy chasing the dog around 10 times, while I collapsed in the natural wooden chair, soul leaving my body... until we discovered the floor-to-ceiling windows with 360-degree views of rainbow-filled fjords. My child suddenly went quiet: "Mom, we're living inside a Frozen snow globe!" 💎 3️⃣ Huge trap! The hotel floats on water The Holandsfjorden fjord water is so clear you can see schools of fish. My child was so absorbed feeding them bread crumbs. At checkout, sudden tears: "The little fish said it never had a $100 breakfast!" (The complimentary $100 voucher was just enough for Michelin-quality cod—what a deal!) 💥 Most devastating was the educational impact The hotel makes toys from recycled materials, and my child suddenly questioned: "Why can't our LEGO be recycled at home?" An old fisherman taught my child to catch salmon, and now they refuse supermarket frozen fish: "This didn't swim from Svartisen!" ⚠️ Heartfelt advice ▪️ Don't book the basic room! Upgrading to a glacier-view room is like buying the cover of National Geographic ▪️ Keep the welcome gift's birch bark! Using it as a journal cover back home will make the whole class envious ▪️ Don't believe in "late checkout"! Your child will hug the transparent kayak saying they want to elope with polar bears Touching my child's face, tanned by the Northern Lights, I suddenly realized—the best early education is letting glaciers teach them what "eternal" means, and fjords show them what "purity" is. (Now my child draws circular houses every day saying they want to be an Earth guardian—how are we supposed to go back to regular school?!)

📍 Norway's Trolltunga Trolltunga is one of the three most famous rock formations in southern Norway. This rock juts out horizontally from the cliff, suspended almost a thousand meters above the ground, hence the name "Troll's Tongue." 🚶The round trip is about 23-28 km, and the elevation gain isn't too significant, making it perfect for beginners⛰️. Since I was starting from Oslo University and this was my first real hike and camping trip, I opted for a guided tour. Looking back, I think it was absolutely the right decision. I'm so grateful to Norway for giving me such a perfect first overnight hiking experience; just thinking about it makes me want to cry! I booked a tour with Trolltunga Adventures. There were about ten of us, with two guides, one in front and one at the back. They kept giving us snacks along the way, and at the photo spots, they took turns letting everyone go out onto the rock for pictures. It looks terrifying from the side, but when you're actually on it, you don't feel the height at all. It's very safe!! After dinner at the campsite, our guides took us on an extra little hike. When we got back, we roasted marshmallows around a campfire and chatted as the sun set. 😋 The next morning, the guides woke us up with oatmeal and hot cocoa. When I unzipped the tent and saw the fjord, I honestly thought I was still dreaming. It was absolutely breathtaking👐! Our group included people from Amsterdam, Greece, Germany, France, Boston, and Bermuda. I chatted with different people throughout the hike and around the campfire. It was amazing to hear about their diverse and free lives. I felt a bit dazed on the way down, like some feelings can only be experienced in the mountains. But I felt grateful, like I had made some new connections with the world.🌷 👣 Since the hike to Trolltunga must start from the small town of Odda, which is near Bergen, and I didn't rent a car, I made my own way back and forth from Oslo by plane and bus.
