⭐The earliest stone houses can be traced back to the 12th century, but it is unknown when people began to inhabit them. Starting from the 16th century, more and more refugees fleeing from natural disasters and man-made calamities came here and built houses using local limestone.

⭐In 1797, refugees petitioned the local King of the Prangi State in Taranto to legally settle and allow the existence of this type of easily dismantled dome stone house, forming the unique Taurisano village in the Alberebello region.
