[2025 Cairns Attraction] Travel Guide for Cairns Esplanade Lagoon (Updated Jun)

The Esplanade has a free municipal swimming pool and BBQ sites. The pool is outdoors and there is a sandy beach, so you can feel like you're at the beach. As it's not by the sea, it's safe even for families with small children. There are lockers, showers, and changing rooms, so it's very convenient. Young people were lying down in the pool to get a tan, while middle-aged and older people were soaking in the pool and chatting, and everyone was spending their time in their own way. There are also restaurants and a night market nearby, so you can't go wrong here. Looking out to the sea from the pool, you can see the vast tidal flats. When I went, a rainbow was visible (see photo).

The weather was nice, and families and tourists were swimming and relaxing in the spacious lagoon, creating a very peaceful atmosphere. Some people were lying on the grass, and it was impressive to see people spending their time however they wanted. There was a cafe nearby, so even if you didn't swim, it was a pleasant place to stop by on your walk. I thought it was very Cairns-like to have such an open space in the middle of the city.

#0yentravelautumn The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon has been recently renovated and is very beautiful. The clear water spreads out, and locals and tourists alike enjoy swimming there. Although I didn't swim this time, the shower facilities are well equipped and it seems like a comfortable place to stay. It was especially crowded with people on weekends, and had a relaxing atmosphere. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around the lagoon, and it's an attractive spot to take a break at a stylish cafe while enjoying a walk.

📍Cairns, Australia Our very first stop in Australia - Cairns. Upon arrival I was hit with a big culture shock - everywhere looks familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. The city, and perhaps Australia in general, feels like a merge between America and Britain. I didn’t anticipate how much I’d be walking in Australia, but the streets are so clean and so accessible, we ended up walking everywhere - especially the promenade / Cairns esplanade (which is such a beautiful walk). I also couldn’t resist checking out Cairns’ markets - Rusty’s market was fab & so was the night market. There are also so many Vietnamese and Thai food & coffee places that are great to try. Honestly, as a big fat foodie, my favourite thing so far has been just walking up and down the supermarket isles, looking at all the crazy snacks that Aussie’s have! There are three places you must visit when you go to Cairns. First, the Great Barrier Reef, second, the Lagoon, and third, the Night Market. The Lagoon is an artificial swimming pool made of seawater. Since Cairns Beach is dangerous, entry into the seawater is prohibited, and there is no sandy beach, so it seems that the lagoon was created because it is a mudflat. There is always a lifeguard on duty, and the water depth is clearly marked, so it is safe. The lagoon pool is free!! There are also several barbecue tables around where you can have a free barbecue. Love this lagoon! Went there in the evening, just walked around but didn’t swim. It’s clean, with changing rooms, showers, lifeguards and free. It’s a nice place for family and kids to spend time during the weekends. Just relax, swim and enjoy the sunset.

The artificial lagoon, the name is very nice, it is actually a beachside swimming pool where people make beaches. free. Moreover, it can be lively. Located on the Espula Avenue on the Esplanade, it covers an area of 4 hectares. There are beaches with sand piled up, and there is a free BBQ area around the lake for family and friends to have dinner on weekends. The artificial lagoon covers an area of 4,800 square meters and is patrolled by lifeguards and illuminated at night. It provides a safe swimming area for tourists and locals. Children can have fun on the beach and adults can shade at this lounge. The most interesting thing is that you can see the aunts in the lagoon dancing "square dance" in the water.
