Visit the enchanting village of "De'enyana Community" in Alishan
De'enyana Community, a beautiful village in Alishan, Chiayi, is a paradise rebuilt by the Tsou people after losing their homes to a natural disaster. The name "De'enyana" means a sacred and safe land far from riverbeds.
Located in Shizhi Village, Alishan Township, this hidden gem is often referred to as Taiwan's version of Shirakawa-go. With colorful houses reminiscent of European fairy tales, the village stands amidst stunning mountain scenery. Spend a night in this tranquil haven, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take an evening stroll, relax, and even search for fireflies!
Each guesthouse, such as Yagu House, Leaf House, Aunt Feng's House, and Jiangjiang House, seems to bear a person's name. That's because local Tsou residents rent out their unused homes or second floors to supplement their income. Some rooms and houses feature indigenous art, weaving, and creative designs that are truly captivating!

A very secluded place to live, the Taiwanese version of Gassho Village, perfect for a half-day trip.
The transportation is actually not easy to reach. It is not a short and rugged road, but there are still tourists coming in one after another. Everyone wants to see this paradise.
When you come to the De'enyana community, you can consider making a reservation at the local Mama BBQ, which is very local. And... that bread is really delicious.

The beautiful village "De'en Ya'na Community" in Alishan, Chiayi, is a paradise rebuilt by the Tsou people who lost their homes in the typhoon. The name "De'en Ya'na" in the Tsou language means a flat and safe holy place away from the riverbed, praying that it will be safe from the typhoon again.
De'enyana was rebuilt by the indigenous people in the form of high-ceilinged cabins after the 88 typhoon. Each resident has his or her own unique style and artistic sense, making the small community look like a fairy-tale cabin hidden in the mountains. Each house has a sloping roof, and each household has its own decorations and care in the courtyard or doors and windows, which adds to the fun and appeal of the community.
Accommodation in a quiet valley, the tribe provides a night of sumptuous Aboriginal cuisine and millet wine. After the meal, you can take a walk in the community to digest the food. The entire community is hidden in the valley, and it feels like a secret place hidden in the fog!

Taiwan version of Gassho Village-Deenyana Community
#2024Travel Review
Because it is not easy for tourists to reach, the beauty of Deenyana is preserved. The sloping roof buildings surrounded by mountains make it known as the Taiwanese version of Gassho Village. The quiet community slows down the pace of travel and gets to know the Tsou culture.
The easier route to drive by yourself is to go to Fenqihu, turn to Taihe, then turn to Laiji Tribe, and then take the connecting road to arrive, which is a long distance.
