#MacauAttractions
The Dom Pedro V Theatre, formerly known as the Peter V Theatre, also known as the Macquarie Theatre, the Macau Club and the Dom Pedro V Theatre, is located at No. 9, Dom Pedro V Square, Macao Special Administrative Region, China. It is the first Western-style theatre in China and was completed in 1860.
The Dom Pedro V Theatre is one of the few remaining neoclassical buildings in Macau, with a distinct Greek Revival style on its exterior. There is an outdoor platform at the entrance of the theater, which used to overlook the South Bay. The main facade of the building is composed of Ionic columns and Roman arches to form an entrance arcade, which serves as a sunshade and rain shelter. The upper part of the theater is a triangular classical pediment, with a semi-relief decoration of a harp in the center, symbolizing the art of music.
The Dom Pedro V Theatre is 41.5 metres long and 22 metres wide. The ridge height of its Chinese-style sloping roof is 12 metres and the eaves height is 7.5 metres. The building is designed in the neoclassical Greek Revival style. The main facade of the theater is a 15.7-meter-wide Roman arched porch, with a triangular pediment at the top.
The architecture and decoration design of the Dom Pedro V Theatre are exquisite and refined, with the typical design style of European theatres at that time, while also combining the local environment of Macau. The theatre has a lobby, and the high-hanging ancient crystal chandeliers add a solemn and rich artistic atmosphere. It is definitely worth a visit! !
