been a recent travel objective of mine. I really like this one not only for the historical aesthetic it brings to Macau, but also for a relaxing (maybe contented) feeling I got today from just sitting and looking at it. It wasn’t easy too because some young people - I mean like people in 30’s - were doing a major selfie thing all around it, acting foolish, or really maybe just having a good time. It seemed like for an hour or so too. Wish I was them. You know, I don’t really want people I don’t know in the pictures I take - know what I mean Sĩ - so I waited them out. And I still felt good coming here despite them, and ultimately I did take my pics. Hey that’s a really old church next to it; I guess you can see that yourself from the cross. They won’t let you take pictures inside, but you can see some really old drawings on the walls that are almost faded out.

Here are some photo tips! From Guia Fortress, you can capture Grand Lisboa and Macao Tower. You can also see the Sai Van Bridge in Guia New Street, the traffic island, Praça de Ferreira do Amaral, and the Our Lady of Penha Chapel. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage attractions and a common image scene of Macau seen in guidebooks. It took about 45 mins - 1 hour to reach this lighthouse from ground level. Its quite a hike, depending on your pace. Beautiful views from the lighthouse as you can see the whole of Macao! Highly recommended! Inside the building gives information on Typhoons that have impacted Macau. Our dream destination for our family trip is China as it's rich history, diverse culture, stunning landscapes, and delicious cuisine make it a captivating place to visit.

Whenever I feel down and lonely, I visit one of Macau’s FREE tourist attractions and get my day hike in there. At the Guia Lighthouse I can see the beautiful city of Macau and enjoy the scenic view to take aesthetic pictures. I just love the heat on winter!

Built between 1622 and 1638, this fortress was, together with Mount Fortress, invaluable in fending off the attempted Dutch invasion of 1622. Inside the fortress stands Guia Chapel, built around 1622, and Guia Lighthouse, dating from 1865, the first modern lighthouse on the Chinese coast. Macao takes its co-ordinates from the exact location of the lighthouse. Guia Chapel was originally established by Clarist nuns, who resided at the site before establishing the Convent of St. Clare. In 1998 frescoes were uncovered inside Guia Chapel during routine conservation work. The chapel’s elaborate frescoes depict representations of both western and Chinese themes, displaying motifs of religious and mythological inspiration that are a perfect example of Macao’s multicultural dimension. Guia Fortress, along with the chapel and lighthouse are symbols of Macao’s maritime, military and missionary past. Guia Fortress has a trapezoidal plan covering an area of around 800 square metres. The lighthouse located within it, is a 15-metre-high tower with a diameter of 7 metres at the base narrowing upwards to 5 metres. At the top, there is a circular observation platform, where the lantern is installed. The light transmitter is accessed by a spiral flight of stairs inside. The tower has a simple rustic exterior, in keeping with Guia Chapel lying adjacent. The church has a simple façade, with a triangular pediment on pilasters finished in yellow rendering that contrasts with the unadorned white building. The chapel nave measures 16 by 4.7 metres, with thick bearing walls supporting the interior vaulting, further strengthened by buttresses running along the perimeter of the building. Inside, the sacristy is located on the left of the chancel and a small choir is located over the entrance. The roof is covered with traditional reddish ceramic tiles.

GUIA LIGHT HOUSE

Guia Fortress is an oasis of green in the center of Macao and only a short distance from the high-speed ferry terminal. Access is via hiking paths or a short cable car ride. At the top, you'll find impressive views out over Macau, along with old cannons, a small chapel with nicely preserved frescoes dating from the 1600s, and a 91-meter-high lighthouse (closed to entry). Go underground and explore the series of tunnels in the fortress open to the public; some are near the lighthouse, and some are near the cable car entrance. Macau's Guia Fortress is the commanding height of Macau. It is located at the top of the Guiyang Mountain. Many young artists like to come here to take a photo, because there is a church of the Virgin of the Snow and a lighthouse on the hill. The mountain can overlook the entire Macau city street at high altitude. It is open every week except Monday. It will be open to the public from 10:00 to 5:00 pm. The Guia Lighthouse was used to defend against foreign invasion and observation stations. It has now been listed on the World Cultural Heritage List! Traffic Raiders 1. Bus - Bus 2, 6, 9, 9A, 12, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 28C, 32 reachable; 2. Others - - To climb to the top of the mountain, visitors can go directly to the taxis. They can also take the cable car up the mountain from the foothills of the Lung Lung Park and follow the walking trails.
