🚋 Travel through old Hong Kong with the sound of Ding Ding: a romantic journey of a day on Ding Ding slow tour
#5月好去处2025
It's not a notification sound, but the city's most flavorful means of transportation - Ding Ding.
This time when I came to Hong Kong, I decided not to rush the schedule or check Google Maps. I just jumped on a Ding Ding and let the rails take me, swinging between the old streets and the crowds.
In that swaying carriage, I seemed to hear the pulse of the city.

🌇 Why do you say that you must take Ding Ding when you come to Hong Kong?
Ding Ding is the only fully double-decker tram system in the world that is still in operation. It has been in operation since 1904 and has been around for more than a hundred years.
There is no air conditioning in the carriage, only retro ceiling fans and wooden seats polished by time. The ticket price is also incredibly cheap - no matter how far or near, adults only need $3.3 Hong Kong dollars.
Sitting on the upper front of the car, watching the wires and road signs passing by the window, the sound of the tracks in my ears, the wind blowing in, and the sun shining obliquely, like a clip from an old movie.
I don't know why, but I slowly relaxed.

🚋 My favorite route: Western Market ➝ Causeway Bay
This is the route I recommend the most.
Ding Ding starts from Western Market in Sheung Wan, passes through the financial buildings in Central, the old buildings in Wan Chai, and finally enters the lively streets of Causeway Bay.
I sat by the window that day, holding the egg waffles I just bought in one hand, and saw an old man wiping the sign on the corner of the street, and a student said "No" to the driver after getting off the bus.
Those trivial daily lives become so moving when the window is framed.
⸻
💭 One sentence makes me unforgettable that Ding Ding bus:
"Hey, we've missed our stop!" An old lady shouted on the bus, and everyone on the bus laughed.
I laughed too. Although I didn't understand much Cantonese, I seemed to hear the warmth of this city.
