A summer festival was held at Ikuta Shrine! The Ikuta Shrine is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in the country. It sits pretty much in the centre of town and surrounded by modern buildings. It is busy and the crowds can be large. There is a nice grove of trees in the back of the shrine that can provide some relief from the sun and the heat. It is worth the visit for sure and it's pretty easy to get to. The shrine itself is beautiful and ornate on the outside, humble and unflashy inside. There are lots of displays in English telling you about the place, it's origins, how it survived floods and earthquakes, the famous visitors and how to cleanse yourself before prayer. The forest garden is small but serene. The highlight was the old, old tree that must have fallen but it is mounted so you can see it's rings. A lovely place! #givethanks #givethanks
