A Slow Day by the Shimanto River – Boats, Bridges & Blue Skies
#cityplaybook
Known as the last clear stream in Japan, the Shimanto River is all about peace, nature, and timeless beauty. Tucked away in Kochi Prefecture, it’s a perfect spot for slowing down and reconnecting with the simple joy of being outside.
I hopped on a traditional yakata-bune (roofed boat) called Shimanto no Ao. Floating gently down the river, I watched the scenery unfold—green mountains, calm water, and wide open skies. It was quiet, still, and absolutely beautiful.
One of the highlights was Sada Chinkabashi, one of the famous low-water crossing bridges. It has no railings, just concrete and river breeze—and that’s what makes it special. Walking across it felt like stepping into a different pace of life.
Why I recommend Shimanto:
・It’s a peaceful escape into nature, perfect for clearing your mind
・The river, boats, and bridges make for a refreshingly local experience
