We chose to visit the Huanghe Road branch (黄河路店) because it is conveniently located near the famous Bund (外滩). We ordered the Golden Crab Roe Noodles (黄金蟹粉拌面) and Crab Roe Soup Dumplings (蟹粉汤包), which cost 121 RMB in total. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even using a translator to communicate with us as we are foreigners. Their hospitality made the experience even more enjoyable. I was put up on the huang he road during my stay in shanghai. And every day on my way to the metro station I would pass by jia Jai tang bao. Always wondered why so many people were qued up. So decided to try with a Chinese friend who gave good reviews for it. Since then I might have been there tree times. The food is simplistic yet flavourful. These are varieties of dumplings and my personal favourite is their scallion oil noodles. They have sets too and its not so difficult to decide by the menu. When we arrived at around 8 o'clock, we found that the restaurant was full of customers, including local Shanghainese and tourists with luggage. After placing the order, I waited for about 20 minutes. I believe it was made on the spot. The crab meat dumplings had a thin skin and sweet crab meat. The fresh meat dumplings were of acceptable standard. The fish ball soup was firmer and different from the Cantonese taste. The only thing was that the store was short-staffed with only three waiters, so it was a bit difficult to cope.
