Chasing Dreams in Daxu Ancient Town, Encountering the Li River
🌿 Trip 🌿
"On the bluestone slabs, in the wrinkles of time, lies half the history of Lingnan."
In the southeastern corner of Lingchuan County, Guilin, the Li River meanders like a jade ribbon, and the ancient town of Daxu sleeps peacefully by the water. Here, there are no noisy neon lights, only the sighs of white walls and black tiles, the whispers of stone streets and alleys, and the ancient legends murmured by the river.
🌸 Strolling Through the Wrinkles of Time
Pushing open the doors of Daxu, you'll find a long street paved with 15,000 bluestone slabs, each engraved with the romance of the Tang and Song dynasties and the misty rain of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Run your fingers over the mottled brick walls, as if touching the warmth of the ancient folk houses of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Between the carved window lattices, there are hidden old dreams of merchants coming and going; under the overhanging eaves, the tinkling of camel bells once echoed.
Wanshou Bridge is the ferry of time. This single-arched stone bridge, built in the Ming Dynasty, has been soaked in the water vapor of the Li River for five hundred years. Standing by the railing, watching the fishing boats glide past the reflection of the 13 ancient docks, you can't tell whether it's the shadow of the clouds or the sails.
🌊 Poetic Residence Among the Scenery
If Daxu is a long ink painting, then Gudong Forest Waterfall is the most vivid stroke in the painting. The 13-level waterfall falls into the deep pool like a silver chain. In the misty water, you can even climb the waterfall barefoot, letting the cool water kiss your ankles and dance with the mountains and forests. Yaoyao Lake is like a piece of jade left behind. Three thousand acres of mountains and forests surround a pool of clear water. Strolling along the lake, the sound of pine waves and birdsong weaves a natural Sanskrit sound.
🎨 Symphony of Fireworks and Poetry
The soul of the ancient town is hidden in the bamboo weaving workshops, dyeing rooms, and blacksmith shops of Dongli Ancient Village. The old craftsmen knead time into pottery and weave it into cloth with their calloused hands. If you encounter a festival, the sound of the Cai Diao opera floats from the rain pavilion, and the dragon dance team walks through the streets to the beat of drums, and the lanterns reflect the red half of the river.
At dusk, find a riverside teahouse, hold a cup of Daxu local rice wine, and serve it with the sweetness of Song gao and the freshness of Li River clear water fish. Before the wine is fully enjoyed, the heart is already drunk.
📍 Travel Tips
• Best time to visit: Appreciate the golden rain of ginkgo in autumn (the red maple leaves of Gudong are like fire in November), and explore the misty Li River in spring.
• Transportation: Take bus No. 306 directly from Guilin city (about 45 minutes), or drive along Guimo Avenue.
• Accommodation: It is recommended to stay at Maozhou Island Homestay, fall asleep with the waves of the Li River, and open the window in the morning to see the ink landscape.
"The so-called distance is just a private escape to reconcile with time."
Come to Daxu and let the sound of footsteps on the bluestone slabs become your gentlest dialogue with thousands of years.
