Guilin and the surrounding areas have many naturally beautiful attractions to visit, and top of the list has to be the scenic Li River. With its jagged-shaped hills slicing into the sky, clear water and lush vegetation, it is a true heaven on earth. Having been here before in 2018, when it was full of people, we took the opportunity to visit again together as a small group. We were lucky with three things-the weather was excellent, there were no tourists and also COVID travel restrictions had just been removed completely. It proved to be perfect-timing indeed, as we will unlikely be able to experience such a unique set of circumstances ever again. To get here, you will definitely need a private car. The best thing to do is stay in Guilin and rent your own car for the day, or just hire a driver-which is what we did here. It is around a 2-hour drive here, so definitely suggest arriving early at around 9am for this special sightseeing attraction, although there was nobody here when we came. Usually large tour groups can take a large boat up the river, but this wasn't available on the day we came, so we rented two small boats for our group of 5 people. Each boat seats 4 people, so we had to pay for the 3 empty seats at 63¥ per seat, but was well worth it, considering we had the whole place to ourselves! It is also worth mentioning not to eat around here as it tends to be expensive, just drive around 10km away and eat lunch elsewhere. Another thing is that you can combine the Li River with several other attractions on the same day, therefore maximizing your time and money. The Auruá Hotel in Yangshuo is one of the most beautiful hidden gems I’ve found in China. It is a luxury resort that has been built into an old sugar mill and has so much history and character. The staff is incredible, the buildings are incredible, the food is incredible, the rooms are incredible, the pool is INCREDIBLE. Really, I cannot say enough good things about our stay here. It is located directly on the Li river and the views are immaculate. I traveled 🧳 from Guangzhou to Yangshuo by train 🚆. It took around 3.5 hours. And the train station is around 30-40 minutes far from the city center. I will tell you more about Yangshuo in a specific post. Auruá Sugar Mill Hotel (formerly named Alila) is located on the Li River in the mountains of Yangshuo China. Visiting here is like being transported to a different world. This is an old sugar mill that was built in 1960 and recently converted into a luxury resort in 2017. Overall: - My stay at this hotel comes with high praises and a 10/10 recommendation. Getting There: - Fly into the Guilin International Airport. From there, it is about a 1.5 hour drive to the hotel. We hired a private driver for our trip and made our way there while visiting a few other sights along the way. You could also book a taxi or DiDi here from the airport. Highlights: - Everything :) - THE POOL is INCREDIBLE. It was built into the original loading dock of the sugar mill. - THE BAR was built into the original pressing room and has the ultimate high end ambiance while keeping the original features of the room as a foundation - THE RESTAURANT had a large variety of multiple options including unique dishes that were built upon flavors famous to the Yangshuo area. - THE SERVICE was really what made the trip. Although the grounds themselves were incredible, our time was ten times better because of the wonderful staff who worked her. On our first night we were approached by Michael, The Director Of Operations, who became a good friend instantly. His energy was so warm and he gave us a tour of part of the grounds and gave us recommendations for the events happening that weekend as well as his favorite places at the resort. We also made friends with our chef, Jack, who was amazing and served us dinner and breakfast. He was so kind and let us try some unique options from the menu. Getting There - Go to the Zhujiang Pier about 40 minutes drive from Guilin City Center. Attractions - River Cruise/ Bamboo Raft (best views are between Yangdi village and Xingping Village) Start your day early. Many of the cruise trips depart between 8:30 to 9:30 am. The registration process is a bit lengthy (have your passport, covid tests, vaccination record and green codes ready). The cost of the cruise varies depending on the cruise ship you select. Each cruise line provides meals but you can bring your own snacks. The trip is about 4-5 hours depending on the weather. The views are spectacular. You’ll have a guide who will explain different sites and will allow you to go to the upper deck for great shots of the scenery. If you are visiting Guilin, the most important spot you should not miss is the Li River Cruise. "A hundred miles of the Li River, a hundred miles of art galleries" is the most appropriate description of this scenery. The famous phrase "Guilin's mountains and rivers are the best in the world" refers to the Li River Cruise. The mountain peaks on both banks stand tall and have a myriad of different shapes, and the water flows along the mountains, creating a beautiful scenery like a painting. #trip2022#breathtakingview

阳朔 - 兴坪古镇 - （过渡）- 黄泥田村 - 相公山 - 下龙风光 - 全家洲 - （过渡）- 浪石村 - 水岩头村 -（过渡）- 杨堤乡 This hiking route, starting from Xingping ancient town and ending at Yangdi village, is what is known to be the essence of the Guilin Li River scenery. It took us through all the stunning karst peaks, cute local villages, rice fields, bamboo forests and along the shores of the Li River. The views were so surreal that I constantly felt I had stepped into a postcard. We finished the hike in one day just right before the sunset when we were incredibly lucky to find a quite nice camping spot to set up the gears before it got dark. Absolutely loved every bit of this trip and thank you @VickWalks for being such a great buddy!
