[2025 Singapore Stay] Travel Guide for Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree (Updated May)

If you are looking to stay at a towering skyscraper with malls attached to it and tons of facilities as far as the eye can see, then this review is not for you. If however, you are interested to know what is a hotel doing in the middle of the Mandai reserve, an area many Singaporean sons are familiar with during their National Service rite of passage, then read on to discover more of my experience at Banyan Tree Mandai Rainforest Resort. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that Banyan Tree’s ethos and commitment to sustainability is not just a philosophy but a living, breathing part of every detail—from the eco-conscious design of the lodgings to the thoughtful practices that honour the surrounding rainforest. One such thoughtful practice is the dimming of lights in the lobby and surrounding areas when dusk falls so as to minimise light pollution. We are in the middle of a nature reserve after all and the wildlife surrounding us needs to sleep too! At the end of the day, note that we are no longer at Orchard Road with its bright lights and endless traffic. Another thoughtful (though some say debatable) practice is the control of room temperature such that it can at best attain a minimum of 24oC. During my stay, I would say that it was comfortable enough for me to sleep through the entire night. However, I do understand that some guests may have a lower tolerance of heat, especially when faced with Singapore’s tropical climate in the warmer months of June to September. Perhaps the management can consider adjusting the minimum room temperature lower during those ‘summer months’ to allow guests to cope with the warmer temperatures? Personally, I enjoyed having the overhead fan in the room, not so much as to cool the room (although it most certainly could), as I like a constant circulation of air in the room as much as possible. Most hotels that I’ve been to do not have an overhead fan in the room and so, I felt that it was a nice touch to have one at the resort. Another feature that I appreciated was the provision of a water purifier in every room. Singapore’s tap water, while known to be safe and clean to drink directly, may cause uneasiness to some if they had to. The machine not only helps to further purify the water but it also eliminates the need for plastic and glass-bottled water. To me, that’s more power to the environment! As stewards of the environment, if we do not take care of the place we call home, who’s going to do it for us? The dedication to preserving the environment while offering luxury is truly inspiring. There is no need to live like Tarzan & Jane in order to co-exist with nature. One of the highlights of my stay was the serene rooftop infinity pool, where I found myself enveloped between the lush canopy and the open sky. It was a magical space to unwind, offering a sense of tranquility that seamlessly blended indulgence with the raw beauty of the rainforest.

This is a beautiful resort where one can be so close to nature and greenery. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The washrooms are luxurious. From the patio of the treehouse, one can absorb in the beauty of nature and water. Walking around the resort, one may encounter wildlife sightings which are absent in the city. Truly an amazing staycation to relax and de-stress.

You really don’t know until you tell me, this place just opened on April 2nd, and it has already amazed everyone 👏. It has a great location at 60 Mandai Lake Rd, Singapore 729979, right near Mandai Wildlife World. Once you get inside, wow, the wild luxury experience is at its best. Among the 338 guest rooms, there are 24 suspended tree houses, which are modeled after the pods of the purple-flowered chicken blood tree, which is very thoughtful. The private terrace faces the rainforest of Seletar Reservoir directly. It feels great to be awakened by the birdsong and morning light coming through the 270° floor-to-ceiling windows every morning. What's more, the toilet flushes with recycled rainwater, ventilation relies on natural design, and even the air conditioner doesn't need to be turned on. The concept of symbiosis with the rainforest is implemented to the end. The interaction with animals is not to be missed. It’s only a 5-minute walk to the Singapore Zoo and River Safari. You can use the VIP channel to enjoy the "Wildlife Breakfast" and Amazon River Cruise. It’s so cool 👍🏻. #SingaporeHotel 👋My dears, I have seen many people complain about Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree in Singapore online before. This time I stayed there for a few days and I want to tell you about my real experience. 🌟Stay Experience We deliberately chose to check in during off-peak hours at night, so there was no long queue at the front desk and it went smoothly. But I have to say that the number of hotel employees is really small. After entering the hotel, the internal route is winding and there is no staff to guide. I was a little confused when dragging my luggage to find the room, and my first impression was discounted 😕. 🛏Room conditions The Rainforest Room we booked was small, and the interior decoration was a bit rough and not well thought out. There wasn't even a bathtub, which was not very friendly for those who wanted to relax in a bath. The rooms are densely packed in the corridor. As soon as you walk in, you're overwhelmed by the cramped feeling. It really looks like a staff dormitory. I have to give a bad review for this ❌. 🍱Restaurant reviews Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style, and there is also the option of in-room dining. To be honest, the buffet has very few food choices, mostly Southeast Asian dishes. The taste is just so-so, and you will get sick of it if you eat too much. On the contrary, the In room dining is amazing and tastes much better. I recommend everyone to try this 👍. 🏋️♀️Facility Highlights The hotel gym is huge, fitness enthusiasts are in luck! There are also two swimming pools, especially the rooftop infinity pool, which has an amazing view and is great for taking photos📷. The swimming pool is open from 7 am to 7 pm, so you can enjoy a swim if you plan your time well. The biggest plus point here is that it is ridiculously close to the Night Zoo and can be reached on foot. It is very convenient to take the kids to see the animals, and it is definitely a blessing for parent-child travel. 🌳Surrounding environment The hotel is hidden in the forest, so mosquitoes are inevitable. Be sure to prepare a strong mosquito repellent spray before coming. However, the room we stayed in was quite clean. At least there were no cockroaches or mosquitoes flying around as described online, so we felt reassured. 📝Summary As a newly opened hotel, its service does have a lot of room for improvement. At this stage, it is more suitable for family outings. At a price of over one thousand yuan, the price-performance ratio is acceptable. But if the price goes up in the future, considering the current service and hardware conditions, it won't be worth coming here specifically to stay. Anticipation and Arrival After successfully booking my stay, I was filled with anticipation. Banyan Tree Mandai is located in Mandai, Singapore, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Just imagining it felt like a rare relaxing trip. As I drove along the winding road, the lush greenery around me made it feel like I was entering a green world. Upon arriving at the hotel, the first thing that caught my eye was the tropical-style architecture, perfectly integrated with the surrounding rainforest environment, giving a sense of harmony and tranquility. Hotel Lobby and Reception Stepping into the hotel lobby, a fresh plant fragrance greeted me. The lobby design is simple yet elegant, using a lot of natural wood and stone to create a rustic and cozy atmosphere. The front desk staff were warm and friendly, efficiently handling the check-in process and thoughtfully introducing the hotel's facilities and nearby attractions. Room Experience I chose a villa with a private pool. Walking into the room, the spacious and bright space made me feel extremely comfortable. The interior decor blends modern and natural elements, with wooden furniture, soft lighting, and green plants, making it feel like a cozy home in a tropical rainforest. The private pool was the most delightful surprise. The water was crystal clear, surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and umbrellas. On a hot afternoon, soaking in the pool, enjoying the cool water and warm sunshine, and feeling the rainforest atmosphere around me was an unparalleled enjoyment. The room's amenities were also very comprehensive, including a high-definition LCD TV, high-speed wireless internet, a minibar, and a safe. The bedding was soft and comfortable, making me feel like I was sinking into a cloud, providing ample rest during my tiring journey. Dining Experience The hotel's dining options were rich and varied, offering Chinese cuisine, Western dishes, and local specialties. I particularly enjoyed the hotel's buffet restaurant, where the ingredients were fresh and the variety was extensive, from seafood to meat, vegetables to fruits, everything was available. The restaurant's environment was also very elegant, and the staff were friendly and enthusiastic, making dining a pleasant experience. In addition to the buffet restaurant, the hotel also had several specialty restaurants worth trying. One of them focused on Southeast Asian cuisine, with a decor style full of rich Southeast Asian flair, and the dishes were authentic and memorable. Leisure and Entertainment Facilities As a resort hotel located in the rainforest, Banyan Tree Mandai's leisure and entertainment facilities are naturally closely integrated with the natural environment. The hotel has a large spa center offering various massages and treatments, allowing guests to relax and rejuvenate. Additionally, the hotel is surrounded by rich natural ecological resources, such as the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. Here, you can observe various rare wildlife up close and experience the wonders and charm of nature. Service Quality Throughout my stay, the hotel's service left a deep impression on me. The staff maintained a warm and friendly attitude at all times, whether at the front desk, room service, or dining service, they were attentive and meticulous. They were very familiar with the hotel's facilities and services, able to provide timely assistance and advice to guests. Areas for Improvement Of course, the stay was not without flaws. Due to the hotel's location in the rainforest, there were relatively more mosquitoes. Despite the hotel's mosquito control measures, it was inevitable to be bothered by some insects. Additionally, some of the hotel's facilities showed signs of aging and wear due to prolonged use, which I hope the hotel can improve. Conclusion Overall, Banyan Tree Mandai offers a fantastic stay experience. It boasts beautiful natural surroundings, comfortable room facilities, diverse dining options, comprehensive leisure and entertainment facilities, and excellent service. Despite some shortcomings, they do not detract from it being a highly recommended resort hotel. If you are looking for a getaway from the city's hustle and bustle and want to be close to nature, Banyan Tree Mandai is definitely your top choice.

We stayed in a Sanctuary King room at Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree with stunning reservoir views. Woke up to misty treetops and soothing sounds of nature. Peaceful and refreshing, the perfect escape. Nights were calm, falling asleep to the gentle chorus of the rainforest.
