A Walk To Remember: Breathtaking Kinabalu
#myhiddengems #familytravel
This Hidden Gem is hidden deep inside the forest; it’s in the Kinabalu National Park, Sabah.
This is Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden, which houses thousands of flora (and some fauna).
To get here, you can take the boring route: by car. Or do it like us, by taking the Silau-Silau Trail from the Kinabalu Park Office / Headquarters. Park your vehicle at the Liwagu Restaurant, and take a light, scenic trail downhill to the Taman Botanic.
This less than 30 minutes trail will reward you with a small river, a tiny waterfall, and photographic mossy forest scene.
The entrance fee of the botanical garden is RM 5 (international) or RM4 (local) for adults, and RM 2 less for child tickets.
It’s not a large garden, but don’t underestimate the lush greenery around you- it’s so peaceful and beautiful here!

Kinabalu’s Secret Garden: Where Flowers Are Louder Than Tourists!"🌸🌿
#kotakinabalutrip
Let me set the scene: I’m standing in **Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden**, surrounded by **2,000+ plant species**, when suddenly—*a pitcher plant the size of my face* winks at me. Okay fine, it didn’t *actually* wink… but when you’re alone with carnivorous plants, your imagination gets weird.
### **Why This Garden Slaps Harder Than Your Alarm Clock**
- **Rafflesia Watch**: The world’s largest flower *could* bloom during your visit (it smells like rotting meat—bring your nose plugs!).
- **Pitcher Plant Selfies**: These bad boys look like nature’s cocktail glasses… if cocktails dissolved insects.
- **Hidden Creek**: Follow the sound of water to a **secret mossy stream** perfect for pretending you’re in *Princess Mononoke*.
**"Oops" Moment**: I may have whispered *"who’s a pretty plant?"* to an orchid. A German tourist definitely heard me.
### **Fuel for Flower Power**
Afterwards, I nommed on **wild ginger flower salad** at Kundasang Market—crunchy, citrusy, and 100% less creepy than the bug-eating plants.
### **Blitz Tour for Lazy Botanists**
⏰ **8:30 AM**: Arrive pre-crowd (and pre-sweat-fest)
⏰ **9:00 AM**: Hunt for Rafflesia (check the info board for blooms!)
⏰ **10:00 AM**: Get lost in the **cloud forest section** (on purpose)
⏰ **11:00 AM**: Reward yourself with strawberry ice cream across the road
### **Pro Tips for Plant Dorks**
☑️ **RM15 entry** includes the world’s most zen garden map
☑️ **Wear red**—the rhododendrons dig the competition
☑️ **Bring binoculars** for birdwatching (and discreet people-watching)
This garden proved plants are way more metal than we think. Would I go back? **Obviously**—but next time I’m bringing a notepad to properly flirt with the ferns.
