This time, I took a new route, "Dongchan Xinlu," which is less well-known and a niche route. From the "Huaxin Gate" in front of the Foding Palace, I walked up the bluestone road with an umbrella, surrounded by the fragrance of osmanthus. The whole road is quiet, with only the sound of birds and insects, which fits the name "Xinlu" (Heart Journey). A mountain top surprise!!! When we went to Niushoushan for the afternoon we had no knowledge of what we would find apart from being able to see a large temple and pagoda on the route to the summit. However once we reached the top we saw the domed roof of the Usnisa place, still we had no idea what the building was or what it contained. Once we went inside we travelled down what felt like endless escalators, until we reached the vast prayer room, filled with ornate statues and people worshiping and singing. Around the outside layer are thousands of small Buddah and as you climb back up through the palace you can look out from the many balconies. To get to the Palace, you'll need to taxi to the Niushoushan Scenic area and walk to the summit, lots of the steeper parts of the walk have escalators.

When the weekend comes around, Niushou Mountain is a great place to chill out with family or friends. It has long been considered a picturesque destination in China, and you can visit several famous sites within the scenic area. The mountain is tinged with color, and from the top, you can see downtown Nanjing framed by mountains, shimmering in the twilight mist.
