Onomichi|Drink coffee in a century-old house during the Taisho period and climb the 300 steps of Miharashi-tei to enjoy the unparalleled Onomichi scenery
This was once the villa of San'e Tea Garden. In the 19th year of the Taisho era, it was located on the mountainside and had a panoramic view of the city. After the war, it was once used as a hotel, but the house could not escape the problems of aging and population migration. In the past thirty years, this Taisho period building became a vacant house. It was registered as a cultural property in Heisei 25 and then converted into a cafe and youth hostel.
Would anyone climb 300 steps to drink coffee? There really are, and you have to queue. Because the seats at Miharutei are limited and it is located halfway up the mountain in Senkoji Park, with an unparalleled view of Onomichi outside the large windows, it attracts many tourists. There is a cherry blossom tree planted in front of the window. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in a week or two, it will definitely be a beautiful sightseeing spot.
The items sold are simple, including coffee, latte, tea and three kinds of cakes, which can also be combined into meal sets. The iced latte is of high quality and has a rich aroma. The store displays a collection of books and old objects. I unexpectedly found two books on the study of Japanese architecture in Taiwan and Tainan. The high ceiling provides light, and the old tea bowls and old-fashioned telephones condense the history of the tea garden and the hotel over the past century.
