#folkactivities I just had the most incredible experience visiting the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization in Sibiu, Romania! 🌍 If you’re into history, culture, or just enjoy being outdoors, this place is a must-see. The museum is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe, and it’s like stepping back in time to explore Romania’s rural past. The entrance fee was around 25 RON (€5), which is a steal considering how much there is to see. The museum covers over 200 hectares, so be prepared to do a lot of walking. 🚶♂️ You’ll find traditional wooden houses, watermills, and even churches, all preserved to showcase different regions and periods of Romanian history. Each exhibit is so detailed, I felt like I was walking through a real village. The interactive displays and live demonstrations, like blacksmithing and weaving, really bring the past to life. What’s great is that the museum is located in the Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, so the scenery is just as beautiful as the exhibits. 🌳 I spent a good few hours wandering around, and it’s easy to lose track of time here. If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll love the boat rides on the lake in the middle of the park. Nearby, you can also visit Sibiu’s historic city center, which is just a short drive away. After spending the day at the museum, I’d recommend heading back into town for a coffee in one of the cozy cafes in Piața Mare. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a peaceful day out in nature, ASTRA Museum is definitely worth the visit. Today, I must share with you the hidden gem of Romania - Sibiu! Located in southern Transylvania, Romania, it is a place that is both ancient and mysterious, and full of fairy-tale atmosphere. Built in the 13th century, this small town is easy to explore on foot. The old town is divided into the Upper Town and the Lower Town, which are cleverly connected by the Bridge of Lies. The architecture here is a blend of Baroque and Renaissance styles, and the unique "eye houses" are unforgettable. 🚩Sibiu Great Square: Located in the city center, it has been mentioned in historical documents as early as the 15th century. The clock tower stands tall in the square, and the colorful houses are lined up in a beautiful way, making it a great place to take photos. 🚩Brukenthal Museum: Located on the west side of the Great Square, it is a fine Baroque-style building. Built in the 18th century, it is the oldest surviving museum in Romania! The museum has a European Art Gallery, a Romanian Art Gallery, and a library, each of which is worth savoring to feel the charm of art. 🚩Council Tower: This is a great place to overlook the city of Sibiu. Built in the 13th century, it has 7 floors and is the tallest building in the old town. The light yellow exterior walls and the blue clock under the spire are unique and eye-catching. It used to be a defensive gate in the city, and standing on it, you can feel like you are traveling back to that ancient era. 🚩Bridge of Lies: This bridge connects the Upper Town and the Lower Town and has a romantic and interesting legend. It is said that if you lie on the bridge, it will collapse, so many lovers come here to make eternal vows of love on the bridge, full of sweetness. 🚩Orthodox Cathedral: Similar to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Türkiye, it is like a smaller version of it. The interior of the church is tall and magnificent, with luxurious decorations in the Neo-Byzantine style and beautiful murals on the walls, which are really amazing and make people marvel at the greatness of art. 🚩Lutheran Cathedral of Saint Mary: It was built on the site of a 14th-century Romanesque church and has five towering spires. Climb the spiral wooden stairs to the top of the tower and enjoy the beautiful view of the entire city of Sibiu, which is truly unparalleled. Sibiu is really worth a visit! Are you tempted? 😘
