🍜 Hong Kong Sheng Kee Noodle House: A hotpot treasure hidden in Shatin
As this was a short stay in Hong Kong, I made an appointment with a friend to have dinner. Of course, we went to Sheng Ji Noodle House, which he had recommended for a long time, to try the flavor of Hong Kong hot pot.
🏠 Sheng Kee Noodle House is located in a residential area in Shatin. Most tourists probably don’t come here. If it weren’t for my friend’s introduction, I probably wouldn’t know that there is a very famous Hong Kong-style hot pot restaurant here.
🍲 Sheng Ji serves noodles during the day and hot pot only at night, so if you want to eat hot pot, remember to come back at night. The decoration of the store is very unique. My friend even took me around and introduced that a lot of environmentally friendly recycled materials were used in the decoration.
🛠️ Prepare the seasoning before serving. Mix the four spices yourself. I only add chopped green onions. The dishes were all recommended by friends. Sheng Ji has a variety of soups. I ordered the assorted mushroom chicken soup, which has chicken soup as the base and mushrooms as the secondary. Take a sip of the soup first, it has a rich chicken soup flavor, sweet and slightly strong, the style of Hong Kong-style hot pot soup base.
🍄 The luncheon meat was highly recommended by a friend, she said it was the best luncheon meat in Hong Kong. People in Taiwan rarely eat luncheon meat. Although it is sold in supermarkets, not many people eat it. Also, few stores on the market use luncheon meat. Most of them still use ham. In fact, luncheon meat is a bit like thicker ham, but the flavor is slightly different. Shengji's luncheon meat is said to be a specially selected brand. It is soft, tender, salty and fragrant after cooking, and there are small pieces of meat in the meat to increase the taste. It is indeed subversive.
🥓 Emperor vegetable looks a bit like Chinese chrysanthemum, but I have never seen it in Taiwan. Maybe this variety is not available in Taiwan. This emperor vegetable tastes like Chinese spinach after being cooked. It has the same taste but is lighter. It is not as strong as the Chinese spinach in Taiwan, and has a sweet taste.
🥬 The hand-made hot pot meatballs in Hong Kong are always good. Both types of meatballs are added with shrimps to increase the crisp taste. The cuttlefish balls are soft and elastic; the fresh shrimp balls are elastic with a fresh shrimp flavor.
🍤 I have been wanting to eat hand-cut beef for a long time, and this time I finally have the chance to eat it. The local beef is sliced thinly, put into the pot and slightly boiled, and eaten directly without any sauce. The beef has a rich flavor, is tender and sweet, and tastes really good. It is definitely worth a try and is no worse than American beef.
🥩 Every time I see friends coming to Sheng Kee, they order hand-cut steak. I have been wanting to eat it for a long time, and this time I finally have the chance to eat it. I put it in the pot and heat it slightly, and eat it directly without dipping it in sauce. The beef has a rich flavor, and the texture is tender, fresh and sweet. The taste is really good, it is definitely worth a try.
