In Singapore, there are two variants of Bak Kut Teh (Pork Ribs Soup). One is the Hokkien darker broth herbal soup which is popular in Malaysia, the other is Teochew clearer and lighter broth peppery soup. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is the later, where you can taste the original sweetness in pork ribs, and the peppery soup will keep your body warm, it is especially good to eat during rainy days, soup is free refill. The meat was so tender and flavorful. You can eat the meat without sauce or dip into dark soy sauce with chili padi. Yum!! The side dishes were really good too. You Tiao (fried dough) is a must order. It was crispy outside and meant to be dipped into the soup before eating. I also like the Ngoh Hiang (fried sausage-like roll). On the morning of our Singapore trip, we stopped by to take photos at the buildings in Clarke Quay while getting off the underground train. We happened to see Song Fa restaurant on the opposite side, so we immediately went over to eat there. The restaurant has spacious seating, air-conditioned and cool. It was packed with people. When we arrived, there was an empty seat, so we didn't have to stand and wait. 🔹Pork Ribs Soup 7.30 SGD This restaurant's signature bak kut teh dish is pork bone soup. The soup is different from what we're used to because it uses white pepper and Chinese herbs, making it spicy and very fragrant. The 3 large pieces of pork bones are soft and very tender. 🔸Braised Pig's Intestine 7.00 SGD The restaurant uses tender pork intestines. The intestines are very soft and stewed with braised pork to make it delicious and juicy. 🔹Braised Pork Belly 7.60 SGD This is braised pork belly. The sauce is quite sweet and the pork is very tender. Almost melts in your mouth 🔸Watercress 4.00 SGD It's a watercress, similar to stir-fried with oyster sauce. It's delicious and not tough.
