I didn't want shrimp. But it was called "Tempura Set Meal," so I wondered if it had shrimp in it after all. Freshly fried tempura was brought to us on an assembly line. It was delicious. It was light. The vegetables were thick and sweet. The sizzle was the best! I've thought since I was a child that the king of tempura is not shrimp, but sweet potato. I was right to have a small meal. The extra mentaiko, which I ate half of, was unexpectedly good. First thing in the morning, I went straight from Fukuoka Airport to Tempura Hirao, and it was amazing.
