Chiang Mai Old Town Recommended Travel Course 1
Here are some recommended courses near North Gate, north of Chiang Mai Old Town, with a quiet sensibility.
1. Fern Forest Cafe
- A beautiful cafe with a pond and a garden filled with lush trees and plants. As soon as you arrive, you can see the garden full of fresh plants. It feels like you've found an oasis in the hot Chiang Mai, and your mind will be at peace.
There are various drinks including coffee, brunch menus, cakes, desserts, and other simple things to eat, so it's a good place to visit for a meal or a coffee time after a meal. This cafe was especially popular with Europeans.
However, there are mosquitoes and flies in the outdoor space with plants, so it can be a little uncomfortable. There are tables in the pretty white marble building, so if you're sensitive to bugs, you can take a rest indoors while enjoying the cool air conditioning.
2. Temples Wat Lok Moli, Wat Rajamontean
- There are many large and small temples in Chiang Mai, but if you're in the North Gate area, I recommend this place. The two temples face each other across the moat. It was sunset time, and the beautiful roof, unique architecture, giant Buddha statue, moat, and red sky were all combined to create a beautiful landscape. It’s also great for taking great pictures with the exotic scenery as the background.
Even if you’re not a Buddhist, take a look around the temple and make a wish in your heart. Although I’m not religious, I felt purified as I spent time praying for the health and happiness of my family at the peaceful temple.
3. Chang Phuak Market
There’s a night market on the North Gate side, but it’s not in the picture. You can taste various foods and have a quick snack here.
4. The North Gate Jazz Co-Op
It’s a shame to just go in on a cool summer night, right? There’s a famous jazz bar nearby. Performances start on each floor from 4-5 p.m., so you can enjoy the performances according to your schedule even if you don’t go there on time. They also sell goods on the first floor, so if you like jazz, it's a good place to buy souvenirs. I arrived a little early, around 5 o'clock, and was guided to the 4th floor. Enjoying the exciting performance and drinking a cold beer made me feel good. When I left around 7 o'clock, there was another performance on the first floor. The price of alcohol is a little expensive, but there is no separate admission fee, so if you think that the seat fee and performance fee are included in the alcohol, it's quite reasonable. At first, I hesitated because I didn't know much about jazz, but it's a good place to enjoy lightly, so feel free to visit.
Chiang Mai's night flows beautifully as you immerse yourself in the charming live music of a passionate band. I hope you all experience the happiness of an exciting night on your trip to Thailand!
