Petra in Jordan is considered the most expensive tourist destination in the world, with an entrance fee of 50 dinars, or about 100,000 won. However, you can see a magnificent sight that is well worth the price. If you go down the red canyon, you will suddenly see the Al Khazneh ruins that appear unrealistically. It is an ancient ruin well known as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It is a temple that was carved and carved directly from the cliff. In order to take a picture of Al Khazneh while sitting on the cliff as in images 1 and 3, you have to climb the cliffs on the left and right of Al Khazneh. It is easy enough to climb on your own, but be careful because there are smoky-makeup touts who look like Jack Sparrow demanding a guide fee of more than 10,000 won, saying that you have to go up through them. You can just go up and take a picture with your friends at the image 1 spot, or if you go up a little further and pay 1jd (about 2,000 won), there are people who will give you a cup of tea and take a video and picture (image 5) on the red carpet. The Petra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We had two choices: walk two kilometers to the city center, or take a horse carriage to get there. I chose to walk and it was a good decision. We passed through many meandering paths, seeing sandstones that morphed in different shades of sienna and different shapes of curves on our way. The tour guide gracefully showed us the way on foot. He explained that, in order to stop the water of the valley flooding the siq leading to the Al Khazmeh, the ancient people built canals and water pipes to direct the water. We saw bas reliefs along the siq, with the image of a man leading a fleet of camels stone-carved onto the sandstones. The natural contours of these red and yellow sandstones were a wonder itself. I became used to the light human hand prints on the way, and thus I was blown away when we reached the Al Khazmeh. There standing proudly and prominently, the city center had high pillars supporting a beautiful Romanesque façade, hewn and chiseled into the massive sandstone structure. It was the treasury of the city. In the middle an opening led into some kind of depth that was kept out of bounds to us. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 I checked off my second Jordan bucket list here, which is to see The Treasury (Al-Khazneh). To get here, you first walk the 1.2km long Siq, a narrow gorge that serves as the entrance to Petra. Out of all the places I have been to in my life, Petra in Jordan was one of the most breathtaking locations I have had the chance to witness. From the breathtaking mood at night to the sheer scale of the rock carvings, everything was a pure breath of fresh air, and a time travel to the past. As we followed the Al-Khubtha trail to the top, we came to a little tent set up by some locals, who served us tea to enjoy the views with. Certainly a place I am dying to go back to, as this experience profoundly marked my heart with emotions and feelings 🇯🇴🐪 Pro tip, for the views from above, there are several locations, but I would recommend following the Al-Khubtha trail. it is a bit of a walk and hike, but you will definitely get to enjoy the views to yourself, away from the rest of the tourists. (Don’t listen to the local “fake” guides who would tell you that trail is closed so that they can bring you to another trail to earn commissions 😉)

5/27｜Petra Day 3｜Temple of Khazneh in the morning, sharing quiet time with camels Today is our last day in Petra. We got up at five in the morning and prepared to seize the last opportunity of this trip. **Return to the Treasury** to see what it looks like in the early morning. We entered the park as soon as it opened at about six o'clock. In fact, it only takes about 30 to 40 minutes to walk from the entrance to the temple, but because the scenery along the way is so charming, I can't stop taking pictures every time. It takes more than an hour to reach the destination - this time is no exception! ⸻ Petra in the early morning is really different: The air is cool, the light is soft, and there are very few people in the whole park. You will feel like you have traveled through time and space and monopolized this ancient city. When we arrived at the Treasury of Khazneh, we saw that the camels were ready to work (stand by), but the owners didn't seem to have come yet, and the camels just stood quietly in front of the temple to bask in the sun. So we-started the battle of taking photos with camels! There were not many people in the morning, and there were no camel riders to disturb us. It was very easy to take pictures in front of the temple, and we had a great time taking pictures, hahaha! ⸻ A little supplement about the background story of the Al-Khazneh Temple: The Al-Khazneh Temple (Al-Khazneh) is the most representative landmark of Petra and a mausoleum carved by the Nabataeans from a whole red rock wall. Legend has it that there was a treasure hidden here, so it is also called the "treasure house", but in fact it is more likely a royal mausoleum or temple building. Although the light in the morning had not yet hit the front of the temple (it was almost there when we left at 8 o'clock), the soft light at this time actually made the entire rock wall appear light pink and gold, and there was a more quiet and solemn atmosphere. ⸻ It was around 8 o'clock in the morning when we left. We walked back and began to see a large number of tourist groups swarming in, and the entire canyon returned to a lively tourist attraction. At that moment, we felt that we really left at the right time! If you are into the outdoors, Wadi Rum and Wadi Mujib are a must! I advise you to go to Wadi Mujib when it's warm outside even though the water itself in the wadi is not super cold as you will get wet. It's not for the faint of heart or couch potatoes, but this short hike was one of the highlights of my trip. You can go to one of the shore side hotels; I stayed at the Porto myself. You can also park alongside the highway near the south coast beyond the hotel strip and hike down to the Dead Sea to enjoy it alone but there is no mud to be had down there. Petra speaks for itself. 🇯🇴-1.1 Finally, we arrived at the highlight of #Petra in #Jordan. This was the place I was most looking forward to on the entire #trip (because after visiting the neighboring countries, I liked them all). Ever since I watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade released in 1989, my childhood dream has been to become an archaeologist (of course, I didn’t become one later 🤷🏽♂️), but the magnificent scenery has always been deeply imprinted in my heart. Little Kerry hoped that one day he would be able to see this historic site, which was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1985, with his own eyes. Finally, 34 years later, I fulfilled a distant wish. For me, Petra is divided into Petra with Al-Khazneh and Petra without Al-Khazneh. The reason is that most people only walk to the temple and then turn back, but in fact, the monastery (Ad-deir / Monastery) at the very end is actually much larger and more stunning. Khazneh is also known as the "Treasure" ( #Treasury ). Legend has it that the urn atop the building contains heirloom jewels, and still bears the marks of bullets fired by Nabataeans’ guns. Looking at those bullet marks not only reminded me of the plot of the Indiana Jones movie, but also immersed me in the memories of my youth. Passing through the winding #SnakePath (Al-Siq), which seems to be a road carved out of the towering rock wall, it coils like a snake on the way to the Khazneh Temple. Looking at the strange rocks on both sides, my heart is filled with admiration for the Bedouins. As we walked along the road, a ray of light shone on the ground in the distance ahead, and the magnificent building that came into view was the "Temple of Khazneh" that I had been dreaming of. That's exactly where they chose the Holy Grail in "Independence Day"🤩! The 39.5-meter-high Khazneh was built during the Nabataeans period between 60 BC and 50 AD. It is carved into the cliff, and many of the architectural details have been eroded over the past two thousand years. These sculptures are believed to be figures from various myths related to the afterlife. Walking along the ancient Bedouin roads under the scorching sun, I felt as if I had traveled back to Greece two thousand years ago, exploring this ancient rose city along the land trade route. Bucket list item checked off! and it did not disappoint. Petra is so much more than just the "Treasury". It has more than 20 kilometers of rock cut tombs and structures one more impressive than the other. As a disabled and plump girl the the main trail is easy enough since it's all downhill. Yet if you wish to enjoy the tombs higher up in the hills there are some that do require some endurance and taking things slowly since there a lot of uneven steps. That being said, I was able to enjoy about 85% of Petra even with my disability.
