Hong Kong|Traditional Festival|Annual Sai Kung Tin Hau Birthday Temple Fair 2025
The annual Tin Hau Birthday Temple Fair starts today and lasts for 5 consecutive days.
The Sai Kung Tin Hau Ancient Temple has a history of over a hundred years (existing since the Qing Dynasty). It is the economic and educational cultural center of Sai Kung Market. In 2009, it was listed as a Grade II historic building.
Every year at the end of May, a thanksgiving temple fair celebration is held.
There are many festive activities here, including Cantonese opera divine skill performances (I saw them training early in the hot weather, very dedicated.), dragon, lion, and qilin performances, booth games, temple fair food and dried goods market, Sai Kung Tin Hau Birthday exhibition, intangible cultural heritage guided tours, and unique souvenirs.
This year’s booths are similar to previous years, with several booths returning from last year.
🏮 The most recommended experience is blowing sugar bubbles, where you can both blow the sugar into bubbles and eat them, very fun. The price is also very reasonable.
This year there are a few new stalls, such as knitted 🧶 wool doll keychains. (The keychains are very cute and eye-catching, but personally, having bought the same keychain before, I find the price a bit high, otherwise it would be more attractive. 😅)
There is also a much better stall selling clay figures this year, featuring popular characters like Nezha and Labubu. (I followed the kids and didn’t ask for the price 🙈.)
🏮🏮🏮 Cantonese Opera Divine Skill Performance (the highlight of the Tin Hau Birthday.)
The grand bamboo stage for a thousand people. (What I admire most is the bamboo jointing technique, truly a unique feature of Hong Kong.)
Cantonese opera performances are held during the day and at night. (For 5 days in total)
Main birthday ceremony: Evening of May 25, 2025.
🕰️ Opening hours: Market open from 12:00–22:30
(Some dried goods stalls close around 21:00)
📍 Location: Sai Kung Tin Hau Temple Square, parts of Yichun Street, Wan Yi Playground Basketball Court, Wan Yi Wan Village Cultural and Recreational Center, and The Kungers.
🏮🏮🏮
Date: May 22 to 26, 2025. (5 consecutive days 🌞, from Thursday to the following Monday.)
Once a year, don’t miss it!
