2025 East Sikkim Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in June)

What a beautiful monastery it is. The statue of Buddha and his stupa was there but the thing is we had to walk a steep mountain to reach the top but it was worth it. It is one of the most famous monasteries in Sikkim and since it's a holy place we were not allowed to take pictures or record videos inside the monastery. And the view from the top of the mountain where the monastery is situated is just WOW. I loved the place and the view ❤️

#templestay This is a very beautiful place. It is one the most holy place for all the Buddhist people. It is surrounded by greenery and beautiful mountains. It preserves some of the very rare ancient books of Buddhism. We can't take photographs inside of the main prayer hall. We have to buy 10/- tickets per head. The best view of the whole Gangtok city comes from the roof the Rumtek Monastery. Try to go to there at the afternoon time. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset from there. A must visit place in Sikkim.

Ganesh Tok is a small Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Gangtok, the Kanchenjunga range, and the surrounding valley. Situated on a hilltop, it's a popular viewpoint for tourists to witness stunning sunrises and sunsets. The temple's serene atmosphere and picturesque location make it a significant spiritual and scenic spot in Gangtok, Sikkim.

A lake in Sikkim. You can only go there if you submit your passport, visa, and photo to the tour company. The snow had already melted in May, so I recommend April. You can ride a yak and take photos for 200 yen. It's almost 4000 meters above sea level, so it's cold and the air is thin. Bring a warm coat. The ropeway costs about 600 yen. I couldn't see anything because of the fog, but if the weather is good, you can see Mount Kanchenjunga. It rained a lot even though it was May, and the weather was bad, but I enjoyed seeing the yaks and the waterfalls along the way. It was a valuable experience.

Nearby, the Nathu La Pass, which connects India to Tibet, offers a glimpse into the region’s strategic importance and breathtaking beauty. Gangtok is also known for its vibrant festivals, including Losar (Tibetan New Year) and Saga Dawa, which bring the town to life with prayers, processions, and celebrations. With its mix of scenic wonders, cultural treasures, and modern amenities, Gangtok is a Himalayan gem that promises an unforgettable experience for every traveler.
