Lanchang Temple is a small monastery, quiet and with a long history. As early as when King Ming Lai built the city of Chiang Mai, the elephants used for transportation entered the city and were kept in a wooded place. After that, the king ordered the construction of a monastery there and named it LamChang. LamChang means "Elephant in Shackles". Today, a large number of elephant statues still guard the temple.
