The Yixing Wanfo Temple is located to the southeast of Yixing and is an attraction within the Wanfenglin Scenic Area of the Yixing city in Qianxinan Prefecture. The temple was constructed during the reign of Emperor Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, and the premise walls carry engravings of various Bodhissatva, such as the Shakyamuni Buddha, Maitreya Buddha, and Guanyin the Goddess of Mercy. It also has a Great Buddha's Hall, Maitreya Hall, Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, monastic dining room, and a reception hall, with thousands of small Buddha statues displayed on the walls to signify that the Buddhas of the world are listening in to the lectures of the Buddha. The temple is unified with the Wanfenglin Scenic area, just like how the Nidang stone forest meets and joins the Wanfeng Lake in a classic karst landform. The temple is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, towering rock formations, and simple rusticity, and is one of China's famed natural cave sites.
