The Cobbles Tea Room, located in the charming town of Rye, is an award-winning English tea house renowned for its scones and cream tea. We tried both during our visit, and they were truly delightful, though slightly on the pricier side. The scones were wonderfully soft and fluffy, perfectly paired with clotted cream and raspberry jam—absolutely delicious! The cream tea was also a favorite of mine, with its rich, creamy, and aromatic flavor. The ambiance of the tea room made the experience even more enjoyable, as the establishment is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and retains many traditional royal English tea house furnishings and utensils. Even the teapots were exquisitely designed, adding a touch of elegance. There's also a small courtyard garden within the restaurant, making it a perfect spot to relax while visiting Rye. Just remember not to arrive too late, as they close at 5 PM. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming; we arrived around 4:30 PM, and they still allowed us to take our time enjoying the tea and snapping photos without rushing us. It was a truly delightful experience.

RYE, we came to this town because we saw a review saying it is 'the town closest to heaven.' When we arrived, the flower season had already passed, so from an aesthetic point of view, the town was not as stunning as imagined. However, in terms of atmosphere, it is truly ancient, tranquil, and peaceful. Being there easily soothes emotions and makes one feel calm and composed. The main street of the town is a cobblestone road, and it is said to have a beautiful name, Mermaid Street. The houses on both sides of the street maintain an ancient appearance, with red bricks or white walls and black wooden beams, giving a strong sense of age. If you like taking beautiful photos, everywhere is a great background for portrait shots. If just looking around, the town can be toured in two hours. But I think it's best to stay for a night. I recommend the Mermaid Inn in the town center, which is said to be the second oldest inn in England. When we went, there were no rooms available, so we could only sit on the ground floor and feel the atmosphere. It had a very medieval feel. Coffee costs over three pounds, and the room rate is over two hundred pounds per night. The inn is right on Mermaid Street. From an experience perspective, the town is quite interesting. The community center has activities that have been ongoing for decades. Residents come here to sell or donate items. You can have free afternoon tea at the community center. The items for sale include vegetables grown in their own gardens, hand-knitted wool socks, baby clothes, homemade cakes, and handicrafts. Many elderly people participate in the activities, sitting around tables, drinking tea, and chatting. The town park sports field has a dedicated lawn for playing lawn bowls, which used to be a noble sport with a history of hundreds of years. Not many people play it in China. The game involves setting a fixed point and seeing whose ball gets closest. Its expense probably lies in the rarity of the lawn. We watched two elderly people compete, and their skills were quite good. The balls they threw could roll out beautiful curves on the grass, indicating they practiced a lot. The field should be open to the public, and those interested can book the field to experience it. There is a river next to the town of Ira. In the evening, with boats and the sunset, the scenery is quite nice. Having a drink by the river, enjoying the breeze and the sunset, is quite pleasant. In short, British towns not only have high aesthetic value but also offer a more wonderful experience of tranquility and leisure.

However, my attention was caught by a slightly lopsided stone lion head perched beneath the eaves of these beautiful structures. At a glance, it seems like a simple ornament, but a closer look reveals a slight lean to the left and a small chip near its mouth where the cement has crumbled over time. I stumbled upon this sight during an early morning stroll. Before the tourist crowds arrived, the street was hushed, bathed in the soft glow of the dawn as the tilted lion cast a long, lingering shadow. While guidebooks delve into the history and architecture of this road, they overlook these minor "imperfections." To me, however, this tilted lion captures the authentic soul of the place. It isn't a pristine, polished tourist attraction; it’s a "living building," weathered by time and rain, aging alongside the community. As a symbol of Singapore, this lion—with its slightly melancholy expression—evokes the hidden history behind the city's rapid growth. Passersby, glued to their phones, never notice it. That’s why I treasure this "unseen perspective." If you ever find yourself on Joo Chiat Road, I encourage you to look beyond the colorful facades. You’ll find small stories and memories etched into the architecture. That tilted lion is still there, quietly keeping watch over the street.

I recently visited Rye, an incredibly charming town about a 2-hour drive from London—it's a paradise for anyone who loves antiques and home decor. You can also get there by train with a quick transfer. The town of Rye is compact and easily walkable. I’d definitely recommend wearing sneakers, though, as there are plenty of cobblestone streets and slopes. For lunch, I went to a restaurant called The Fig, which has a 4.7 Google rating. The plating was beautiful and the food was delicious, but the two dishes I happened to order were both surprisingly spicy! I browsed through a few interesting boutiques and picked up some lovely antique plates. I headed home already dreaming of staying overnight next time. It’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again.

Conveniently located for Rye and Kent, this site offers large, open grassy fields with some tree shelter at the top. The showers and toilets were very clean, with two uniquely housed in a converted horse box! Despite only having four showers, we experienced no waiting, and the hot water flowed freely. We appreciated the thoughtful extras like a local walking map, microwave, and hairdryer. Being a small campsite, it was wonderfully peaceful. Many campers enjoyed hired firepits, complete with supplied logs. The site is just off the main route to Rye, so it's easy to locate. We walked into Rye via fields and public footpaths, which, while not flat, was a leisurely one-hour walk. We only briefly met the owners, but they were friendly and helpful.
