Palermo, the capital of Sicily, is a port city located in the northwest of the island. Sicily is located southwest of the Apennine Peninsula, near the Tyrrhenian Sea's Gulf of Palermo. It is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the largest city in Sicily. It is also a natural harbor with a rugged terrain. Palermo Cathedral was built in 1184 and completed in the 18th century. It is a fusion of many architectural styles. In 1184, the bishop began to build a Norman church on the site of a mosque. In the 13th century, it was influenced by Gothic architecture, and in the 15th century, it incorporated Spanish architectural styles. The Gothic double spire windows and arches, the Catalan-style porch and columns, and the Muslim-style geometric patterns of the apse are all perfectly integrated. The interior of the church is a Norman-style semicircular hall, which is large and empty. It is the burial place of the Norman royal family. The underground treasure house displays a variety of jewelry, all of which belonged to Queen Costanza di Aragon. After visiting Palermo Cathedral, head to the Italian restaurant La Galleria in the alley behind it. The restaurant serves delicious seafood pasta in large portions that will not disappoint.

Cannoli - one of the main Sicilian desserts, a waffle tube which is filled with ricotta cheese! 2. Pasta dishes - the main dish in Italy 😁 3. Pizza 🍕- a must have 4. Sicily is a lovely beach destination with beaches all around the corner at every little town. These beaches are laid back and accessible but keep in mind some of them are private ones. The water is often crystal clear and the temperature is very nice. A truly Italian summer experience, heading to the beaches on a nice hot day is a relaxing and fun experience. I took a bus from Palermo, Sicily and came to the small town of Alcamo~! This place is famous for its wine production and, as expected from Italy, all the food was delicious~~ It's a smaller city than Palermo, so it's quiet like a village and the ride there was really nice☺️☺️💕 Since I came to Italy, I had to eat pasta and arancini, so I ate arancini with ham and cheese and it was really, really delicious~~!! The Sicilian Sea never fails to amaze me. Sicily is one of those rare destinations that will deliver what you're looking for all year round. ☀️ Visit in summer for unbeatable sun and luxurious lidos ⛅ Visit in low or shoulder season for serene moments while renting a car and navigating the beautiful clifftop towns This time, I actually visited in the shoulder season. 🏝️ My week started with a visit to Isola Bella, just of the coast of Taormina - you have to visit this area on your visit to Eastern Sicily. At low tide, take the short walk over to the island for a beautiful perspective of the Sicilian coast. Enjoy a cocktail or three at the local seafront Trattoria. 🏰 The town of Aci Castello was next on my list, featuring a grand Norman Castle. The town became popular after a devastating Mount Etna eruption displaced locals across the island and forced them to retreat to towns like this. The only noise you'll get here is the sound of the crashing waves against the castle walls. 🏛️ If you're hiring a car, I'd recommend a journey over to Syracuse, a small city steeped in Greek tradition. Greek influence shines here and there's even a Greek theatre to remind you of the island's deep history. ⛱️ Next it was onto Giardini Naxos, a charming seaside resort with a plethora of traditional Trattorias and even archaeological museums. 🍽️ The last evening of my trip and I had to visit Taormina again, to enjoy the last few hours of the sun. I took a seat at the local Ristorante and enjoyed impeccable antipasti and sympathetic service from the locals. Sicily 🇮🇹 There is so much to do and soooo much to eat in this fantastic island that it is impossible to do everything or taste all the yummy local delicacies in just over a week. I particularly liked the Greek/Roman theatre that is still very much in use these days. The theatre is jaw dropping and at the back of it you can see the #etna volcano, still active, still kicking. #syracuse and its unesco world heritage island of #ortigia is another really pretty town to visit and try seafood and freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. #modica is little town down south of Sicily famous for its chocolate (that incredibly doesn’t melt at all) that is still worth a visit. In there I tried a typical #sicilianbreakfast with granita, brioche and fresh almond milk (made with local almonds). #agrigento town and its Greek style temples are something out of this world! I was so impressed by the #valleyofthetemples! it’s hard to look at those beautiful temples and believe that you are still in Italy. #marsala and #marsalasaltflats in the west park of Sicily is another incredible part of the island worth a visit, and finally #palermo and its fisherman town neighbour of #cefalù, over there you have beautiful water and wonderful beaches! I have probably put on a few kilos just in a week here 😂 But it’s worth it 😃 I could go on forever, and I didn’t even visit all the other beautiful places I during this trip in Sicily.
