Sylt, Germany
The island of Sylt is part of the North Frisian region of Schleswig-Holstein and is known for its unique coastline shape.
It is an island in northern Germany extending into the North Sea. With an area of 99.14 square kilometers, it is the fourth largest island in Germany and the largest island in the North Sea. It is famous for its tourist attractions, especially Westland, Kampen and Wenningstedt-Bradrup, as well as 40 kilometers of white sandy beaches.
The media frequently reports on its exposure to the North Sea and its ongoing land loss during storm surges. Since 1927, Sylt has been connected to the mainland by the Hindenburg Causeway, making it the only island accessible by train. Whenever the tide is high, the sea water almost covers the entire causeway.
In later years it has been a resort for German jet-setters and tourists occasionally seeking celebrity. As far as I know, housing prices there are the highest in Germany, including in big cities like Berlin and Munich.
The biggest feature of the island is the houses. Except for the hotels, the roofs of ordinary houses are almost all covered with thick grass, and waterproof materials are placed in the middle of the grass, which ensures excellent warmth in winter. #greentourism #germanytravel #northsea #atlantic #island #islandholiday #deutschland #sylt
