civitadibagnoregio
A very small but worthwhile visiting place near Rome, Italy (Civita di Bagnoregio)
Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in central Italy, a suburb of the comune of Bagnoregio, 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) east from it. It is about 120 kilometres (75 mi) north of Rome. The only access is a footbridge from the nearby town, with a toll introduced in 2013.[1] Due to the toll, communal taxes were abolished in Civita and nearby Bagnoregio.[1] Due to its unstable foundation that often erodes, Civita is famously known as "the dying city".
Transportation:
2 hours driving from Rome#italy
Sitting on a plateau of friable volcanic tuff, Civita di Bagnoregio is frequently named “The Dying Town” because of the incessant erosion, so there’s only a handful of citizens here. The view from Bagnoregio is as impressive as you might expect. Photos don’t make justice to this gem, and a visit should be on every serious traveler of Italy.
Accessing to the beautiful historic centre is made possibile only by a foot bridge, every other road is just non-existent. Inside the hamlet ou can spot lots of details from its Etruscan past and the while place is very well preserved despite a recent revival in tourism that constantly brings crowds from all over the world, and sometimes this makes local residents a little nervous when their privacy is broken.
Tip: Book a night in one of the several bed and breakfasts for a very romantic trip!

Hayao Miyazaki didn't lie to me! The Castle in the Sky really exists!!
Located in Civita di Bagnoregio, Bagnoregio, Italy, this town is the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki's movie 'Castle in the Sky'. But in Italian, it means 'the city that is about to disappear'.
The town is like an island in the sky, isolated from the world. It is listed as one of the 100 endangered places in the world. Due to its location in the earthquake zone, it will collapse one day!
1. The town was established 2500 years ago, it is an ancient site in Italy, now there are only a few dozen residents.
2. There are more cats in the town than residents, super cute.
3. Over the past few decades, it has actually been abandoned. The medieval houses of Civita di Bagnoregio can be preserved to a large extent because it is relatively isolated.
4. Now a pedestrian bridge spans the wide valley, which is the only way in and out of the village. There is a viewing platform before entering the town, where you can overlook the towering town. When the weather is good, it looks like a floating castle in the sky (the most beautiful shooting check-in).
5. The town is located on an important traffic route, and there are still many secret rooms and tunnels under the cliff, many of which have been destroyed due to seismic activity (there is a hidden tunnel passing under the town, leading to the canyon below).
6. It has been used as a film shooting location many times. A earthquake in 1695 caused a lot of damage. After the earthquake, the entire town's residents moved to nearby Bagnoregio.
7. The town is 120 kilometers north of Rome, and it is very convenient to drive. The town is small and can be visited in a few hours.
8. If you want to take good photos, go early, now there are slowly more tourists. Admission: 5 euros
9. The town has some cafes and gourmet shops, all of which taste good
Pastoral gardens, ancient stone buildings, no vehicles, poor network, suitable for enjoying personal time.
10. Life advice: Go early, maybe it will disappear one day!!!
