City Walls The city wall winding above the town was completed in the 18th century during the reign of Iraklius II. It is 4 kilometers long and inlaid with 23 towers. There is a Saint George Church inside the city wall, and the church bell tower dominates the town's skyline. Dusk is the best time to stroll along the city wall. There are scattered red-tiled houses nearby, flat fields and lush woods in front, and the Caucasus Mountains in the distance. Pheasnat’s Tears Restaurant This restaurant, called “Pheasnat’s Tears”, has its own vineyard and winery. The owner is dedicated to qvevri winemaking and has played an important role in promoting Georgian wine internationally. You can drink top-quality clay wine here, or contact their winery for a tour. Telavi: Winery Base Camp Telavi is the capital of Kakheti. The town’s Batonistsikhe Castle was once the residence of the Kakheti king. If you are a veteran “drinker”, you must visit the surrounding wineries. The Kakheti Wine Guild near the castle can organize winery tours, or you can charter a car to explore on your own. Alaverdi Cathedral Built by the Kakheti king in the 11th century, this church was the tallest church in Georgia until the Holy Trinity Church in Tbilisi was built. It is inconvenient to travel and is surrounded by desolate scenery. There are few tourists, but monument lovers should not miss the Udabno Monastery here.
