Sujiawei, located in Yihe Town, Dongyuan County, Heyuan City, 26 kilometers from the city center, is the ancestral home of the descendants of Su Dongpo, a great literary figure of the Song Dynasty. Upon entering Sujiawei, one sees chickens grazing on the grass, streams babbling under bridges, and huge waterwheels turning along the riverbank; the entire village is surrounded by mountains and water. The Dongjiang River and the Jiushe River converge on the south side of Sujiawei, their clear waters adding a touch of elegance and charm to the otherwise rigid Hakka architecture. The banks of the two rivers are shaded by lush bamboo, reflecting Su Dongpo's sentiment of "I can live without meat, but not without bamboo." The clear, gentle river, the simple, old houses, the ancient banyan trees with their deep roots and abundant leaves, the well-arranged rice paddies, and the swaying bamboo create a tranquil and elegant atmosphere. The Dongjiang River is crystal clear and green; standing on the Wangjiang Pavilion, the serene banks and beautiful scenery are captivating.
